They oversee the charity work we do there and we have known them for more than 18 years, so we have a very high level of trust with them. We keep strict accounting records for every dollar sent to our missionaries in Nicaragua. Each missionary has a contract that specifies the exact dollar amount of their sponsorship. Due to the financial regulations in Nicaragua, we are required to send individual electronic funds transfers to each missionary. To receive these funds, each missionary must have their own individual bank account. The local banks require a valid government-issued ID and letters of sponsorship from our foundation to set up these accounts.The missionaries submit proposals for church activities and benevolence, which are then reviewed and approved by the directors. They also send monthly reports detailing the activities and people helped through the benevolence sponsorships.For sponsored students, they are personally known by one of our sponsored missionaries and reviewed by our directors. Students sign off on funds received each month and submit report cards to the directors annually to ensure attendance and passing grades.To send the funds, we use two or three well-known, worldwide electronic transfer companies. These companies have strict governance and requirements for the funds transfers both for us as the sender and for each missionary and their bank as the receivers of those funds. We have a complete audit trail of every transaction sent and receive confirmation from the local bank in Nicaragua for receipt and delivery of the funds.Finally, our board sends a representative, usually more than one, at least twice a year to personally meet with and review the work of each missionary. This is done to verify the work and the personnel in person each year face to face.
