“Apprenticeship connections, inc. Was an idea in the beginning of 2014. We began to develop a program which enables interested individuals to learn skills, one-on-one, under the tutelage of an experienced mentor. The goal was to develop an online platform to make it possible to find a suitable mentor who would teach their skills in a short-term apprenticeship. The infrastructure of the program was tested with small group meetings of the various audiences expected to engage with the apprenticeship connections' program. On february 4th, 2014 we formed apprenticeship connections, inc. As a non- stock corporation with the virginia state corporation commission. Subsequently, we submitted form 1023 to the irs requesting 501(c)(3) nonprofit status to benefit those qualifying applicants in need of scholarship funds to become an apprentice. On march 30, 2015, we received our determination letter from the irs. In april, 2014, our apprenticeship concept was the winner of the tom tom festival pitch competition in charlottesville, va. As the winners, we received a grant from the university of virginia's, batten institute for entrepreneurship and innovation, with admission into the ilab incubator in may. We then began developing the business model with the support of the ilab for a year. After creating a viable business model, we put it to the test by implementing a pilot with two successful apprenticeships over the summer. We placed an apprentice with a farmer and another with a butcher in one month long apprenticeships. By fall, we established an advisory committee who guided the team forward. They helped the team stay focused on the development of a viable entity that would benefit the community and engage interested individuals in a unique educational program that develops skills and creates long term relationships. On november 20, 2014, apprenticeship connections, inc. Announced its program to the public with a successful launch event highlighting several of our mentors. Our goal is to be able to serve anyone who applies and is accepted into the program. Apprenticeship connections, inc. Continues building our program and expanding our website to be a functional interactive platform to engage apprentices and mentors in apprenticeship training.”
