CARAVAN Arts, NFP is a nonprofit that focuses on building bridges of peace and understanding through the arts between diverse cultures, peoples and spiritual traditions. CARAVAN does this through art exhibitions, journeys and creative engagement.

CARAVAN believes this is often best done through art.Highlights in 2015*Major Group Interfaith Exhibitions:THE BRIDGECARAVAN launched the world-wide tour of THE BRIDGE in early 2015, the 2015 CARAVAN Exhibition of Art, a ground-breaking East-West traveling exhibition showcasing the work of 47 premier Arab, Persian and Jewish contemporary artists from 15 countries of Muslim, Christian and Jewish backgrounds, around the theme of what bridges us to each other, as well as what they hold in common across their creeds and cultures. Opening in Paris in February 2015 at the Church of St. Germain des Pres, the oldest church in Paris, during the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, THE BRIDGE went on to be exhibited in Cairo, Egypt, in London, England (on Trafalgar Square) and Metz, France at Metz Cathedral, taking with it a fundamental message of intercultural and inter-religious harmony. Numerous bridge-building artistic program were held throughout the exhibitions running in each venue. THE BRIDGE continues in 2016 to be exhibited around the USA.The Mediterranean Peace Donkey exhibitionAgainst a backdrop of extremists attacks in the West and conflict in the Middle East, The Mediterranean Peace Donkey initiative was a peacebuilding art exhibition of 21 life-sized fiberglass Maltese donkeys painted by premier Maltese, Gozitan, Egyptian and Western artists symbolizing the need for peace and compassion between the Middle East and West, and throughout the Mediterranean Basin. Running from early November 2015 through the end of the year in Mdina, Malta during the Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale, The Mediterranean Peace Donkey exhibition used the symbol of the renowned and endangered Maltese donkey to focus global attention on four critical needs: interreligious harmony, Middle East-West relations, donkey welfare in zones of conflict, and humanitarian assistance for migrants/refugees. The Donkey Sanctuary, the global leader in the field of donkey welfare, prepared a report, titled Caught in the Middle, about the plight of donkeys in conflict zones of the Middle East that was launched with the exhibition. One of the highlights was to see how schools in Malta, encouraged by the Ministry for Education, used these painted peace donkeys as a creative teaching vehicle to children and youth to address themes of harmony, tolerance, peace and respecting religious and cultural diversity.*East-West ConcertsDuring the course of the Mediterranean Peace Donkey exhibition in Mdina, Malta, CARAVAN held two major East-West concerts at the historic St Pauls Cathedral, titled On A Caravan and Notes of Faith involving the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Middle Eastern musicians that featured compositions that uniquely blended and explored the richness of Middle Eastern and Western musical traditions.*Solo Peacebuilding ExhibitionsCARAVAN partnered with Gallery Misr in downtown Cairo for a solo humanitarian exhibition by Dr. Reda Abdel Rahman, CARAVANs Egyptian Representative, titled The Donkey, about the unique humanitarian symbolism of the donkey in the Middle East (i.e. a symbol of peace between religions and of compassion in the midst of human suffering). The exhibition opens on December 13 at 7 PM and runs through January 7, 2016. *East-West Artist ExchangeA strategic focus for CARAVAN is to encourage and facilitate East-West artists exchanges; i.e. artists from the Middle East having experiencing the West and vice versa.
