Mission

The Corporation is organized exclusively for the following purposes: (a) To provide decent housing that is affordable to low and moderate income people; (b) To act as a developer and a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO); (c) To pursue a range of innovative demonstration projects that will engage community members, promote placemaking activities, create and deploy urban interventions, rehabilitate and/or renovate existing residential and commercial properties, and construct and manage new residential and commercial development; and (d) To operate exclusively for charitable, religious, literary, educational and scientific purposes, within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, including for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as tax exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (or any future corresponding provisions).

1) Collaborated with the City of Honolulu for the 2014 Transit-Oriented Development Symposium. Constructed placemaking demonstrations of alternative uses for a parking stall, wayfinding signage, infographics on the benefits of walking and bicycling, micro housing unit, and sidewalk scenarios. 2) Collaborated with the City of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation and Department of Planning and Permitting to conduct a Jane's Walk for to enhance local residents' understanding of historical, current, and future development information regarding areas along Thomas Square, Blaisdell Center, and Kakaako Ward. People made observations along various sidewalks such as the lack of a pedestrian-friendly entrance to Blaisdell Center and how sidewalks with shade trees felt more pleasant. As Jane Jacobs once said in The Death and Life of Great American Cities, "the trust of a city street is formed over time from many, many little public sidewalk contacts."$0$2,232
