“Lakeshore Intergenerational School is the second replication of the award-winning Intergenerational School that opened on Cleveland's east side in 2000. The school features a curriculum where students learn at their own pace and knowledge is constructed through social connections. The model breaks down traditional age barriers to create an environment where learners of all ages come together for shared experiences. Last year, Lakeshore Intergenerational School was rated amount the Top 10 Elementary Schools in the entire city of Cleveland for student achievement. Each multi-age classroom (spanning 3-4 year of age and varied abilities), creates a dynamic and individualized learning environment where everyone can fluidly through development stages based on mastery (no social promotion). The Intergenerational Schools are also recipients of the national Eisner Prize for Intergenerational Excellence. The Eisner Prize recognizes individuals or non-profit organizations for efforts to unite multiple generations- especially seniors and youth- and bring about positive, lasting changes in their communities. Students regularly interact with diverse adults and elders who participate as mentors, tutors and co-learners. Community are key and every class adapts a long term care facility's as residents for regular visits and activities. The School also partners with local high schools, colleges and non-profits, most recently, providing a volunteer work environment for adults with disabilities, which helps our students learn about diversity and communicating with people who may be different. Since the neighborhood, with much help from the local community development corporation, Northeast Shores, brought the school as a valuable community asset, it has had tremendous success.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | The Intergenerational School connects, creates and guides a multigenerational community of lifelong learners and spirited citizens. It serves students K-8 with an innovative developmental approach that includes real life experiences and community relationships. The Intergenerativity Project was a months-long collaboration between the Intergenerational School community- board members, mentors, students, teachers and parents, Judson Smart Living residents, and Case Western Reserve University professor and Pultizer-Prize winner, Jim Sheeler and his college students, as well as the Story Bridge Theater Arts Company. Using the Story Bridge process, multiple stories were collected from our community members ages 6-90 and were brought to life in an interactive place that featured a promenade of vignettes (with our students, parents, and volunteers as actors) and a community of dance for all participants. | IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | Lakeshore Intergenerational School is the second replication of the award-winning Intergenerational School that opened on Cleveland's east side in 2000. The school features a curriculum where students learn at their own pace and knowledge is constructed through social connections. The model breaks down traditional age barriers to create an environment where learners of all ages come together for shared experiences. Last year, Lakeshore Intergenerational School was rated amount the Top 10 Elementary Schools in the entire city of Cleveland for student achievement. Each multi-age classroom (spanning 3-4 year of age and varied abilities), creates a dynamic and individualized learning environment where everyone can fluidly through development stages based on mastery (no social promotion). The Intergenerational Schools are also recipients of the national Eisner Prize for Intergenerational Excellence. The Eisner Prize recognizes individuals or non-profit organizations for efforts to unite multiple generations- especially seniors and youth- and bring about positive, lasting changes in their communities. Students regularly interact with diverse adults and elders who participate as mentors, tutors and co-learners. Community are key and every class adapts a long term care facility's as residents for regular visits and activities. The School also partners with local high schools, colleges and non-profits, most recently, providing a volunteer work environment for adults with disabilities, which helps our students learn about diversity and communicating with people who may be different. Since the neighborhood, with much help from the local community development corporation, Northeast Shores, brought the school as a valuable community asset, it has had tremendous success. |
