“Dsc has several programs for youth as young as 11 and adults of all ages. The three programs mentioned below are our youth programs, our masters programs for adults, and our adaptive programs for civilians and military veterans with disabilities (i.e. Para-rowers). Youth programs - after-school: a.dsc runs high school and middle school after-school programs during the spring, fall and winter, and college interns and advanced high school scullers develop leadership skills by assisting to coach novice rowers in these programs. These young coaches also get professional rowing coaching development from our more experienced coaches and by attending an annual virtual coaching conference run by usrowing. The capstone of the winter program was a competition on rowing machines, mixing adult and youth scullers, parents of our youth, and dsc's para-rowers, in relay races. An end-of-spring picnic and awards ceremony concludes the after-school program each year. B.arrangements were made with two local schools to establish a weekly after-school sculling team program on a day our traditional after-school program is not running. Most of the students from those diverse schools have never been on or even seen the delta waterways that run through stockton and whose natural wonders are now made accessible by dsc. One of those schools, able charter school benefited from a dsc-arranged surprise visit to the school by author arshay cooper, who helped spark renewed interest in sculling. Cooper's memoir, a most beautiful thing, was made into an award-winning documentary film of the same name. C.our competitive youth participated in two indoor rowing championships in the winter, in on-the-water sprint regattas in the spring, in a half marathon race in the summer, and in 5 km. Races in the fall. - special sessions & camps: learn to row sessions and summer camps were well attended, yielding a few rowers for dsc's academic year after-school programs. - erg ed: dsc expanded this nation-wide indoor pe rowing curriculum in new local middle and high schools by training 8 teachers how to implement the curriculum in their classes and by assisting them as needed. - discovery challenge academy: this school trains at-risk student cadets in a collaboration between the san joaquin county office of education and the national guard (the ng in the school's name). Dsc arranged 4 weekend visits to dsc's boathouse, where 10 student cadets learned to row on rowing machines and to scull in boats on the water. Masters (adult) programs - dsc's masters program continues to expand, yielding a few novice scullers from each of a few sample sculling sessions followed by introduction to sculling programs. Practices for committed participants include coached hybrid virtual/live workouts on indoor rowing machines, a free weekly yoga class, and on-the-water sculling three times a week. - winter fitness program: in 2024 dsc added this new program, which mixed indoor rowing workouts with other fitness activities, such as dynamic and static stretching and strength training. - competitions: like our youth, competitive masters scullers compete in two 5 km. Races each fall, in an indoor rowing championship in the winter, in sprint race regattas in the spring, and in another sprint race as well as a half marathon event in the summer. Adaptive programs - oarbusters is a weekly sculling experience for civilians with disabilities. Dsc added three new para-rowers in 2024 in this labor- intensive program in which adaptations to boats and rowing machines make it possible for our oarbusters to row. A volunteer is also needed to accompany each para-rower. Two oarbusters competed and earned two gold and one silver medal at the bayada regatta in philadelphia, the biggest and longest running annual para-rowing regatta in the world. We were also very proud when one of our oarbusters was invited to be in the first coastal rowing quad (4-person boat) in the u.s. She competed with her crew in lima, peru, i”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | DSC HAS SEVERAL PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AS YOUNG AS 11 AND ADULTS OF ALL AGES. SHE COMPETED WITH HER CREW IN LIMA, PERU, I |
