DescriptionGrantsExpenses
SAFE TALK FOR TEENS IS AN EARLY INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION RESOURCE PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WITH UNMET NEEDS IN WASHOE COUNTY, ESTABLISHED IN APRIL 2013. AFTER LISTENING TO AND ASSESSING EACH TEENAGER'S AND THE FAMILY'S NEEDS WE OFFER THEM MOTIVATION, ASSISTANCE AND GUIDANCE. WE FOCUS ON DECISION MAKING, AND THEREFORE, OUR VALUES CLARIFICATION AND GOAL SETTING EXERCISES, ARE THE CORNERSTONE OF OUR PROGRAM. WE BELIEVE THAT IF KIDS ESTABLISH A SET OF CORE VALUES AND REFERENCE THOSE VALUES WHEN MAKING DECISIONS THEY WILL MAKE BETTER CHOICES. AT TIMES, AFTER THE INITIAL ASSESSMENT, THE NEED FOR FURTHER SERVICES ARE IDENTIFIED SO WE ACT AS A PORTAL FOR COUNSELING SERVICES AND/OR PROGRAMS IN THE COMMUNITY FOR THE TEEN AND/OR THEIR FAMILIES. OUR WORK EXPERIENCE/BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP IS ANOTHER COMPONENT OF OUR PROGRAM AND CONSISTS OF PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES IN THE COMMUNITY TO NOT ONLY EMPLOY SOME OF THESE TEENS BUT TO TEACH THEM BUSINESS SKILLS AND TO MENTOR THEM. WE UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF PART TIME EMPLOYMENT FOR TEENAGERS, AND/OR INVOLVEMENT IN SPORTS OR EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES TO HELP THEM KEEP BUSY AND OUT OF TROUBLE. PART TIME EMPLOYMENT ALSO HELPS TO IMPROVE A TEEN'S SELF-ESTEEM. TEENS MAY COME TO US FOR AS MANY VISITS AS THEY WANT OR NEED. BY THE END OF 2015 OUR REFERRALS HAVE REACHED A TOTAL OF 520 SINCE INCEPTION. IN 2015, WE RECEIVED 235 REFERRALS AND SAW 200 OF THEM INDIVIDUALLY. WE SPENT 673 HOURS OF ONE ON ONE TIME WITH TEENS AND THEIR FAMILIES. ON A SCALE OF 1-5, WITH 5 BEING THE BEST POSSIBLE SCORE, IN OUR TOTAL SATISFACTION SURVEYS, TEENS RATED US 4.56 OUT OF 5 AND PARENTS RATED US 4.75 OUT OF 5.$75,000$147,265
