After 17 years in charlotte, we realized there was a true need for affordable performance space so we saw an opportunity in our new location and began cultivating a black box theatre. We have opened it to various companies, studios, and independent artists. We have gathered state lighting from organizations who are remodeling and updating their spaces (thank you billy graham library). We have traded classes for electrical rigging. We have purchased chairs, risers, and pipe and drape to create the best experience we can for the artists and for the audience. So far we have hosted the mark, martha connection/kinetic works and embody dance company as well as our three resident companies: baran dance, the garrison experience, and movement migration.”

Dancers perform classical ballet works and original contemporary by area choreographers. Choreographic residency project: the choreographic residency project was born out of the huge impact covid- 19 has had on the dance, music and theatre communities across the country. By providing residency space, this program seeks to provide an artistic outlet for choreographers, dancers and dance lovers within the charlotte- mecklenburg community to create new work and share it with audiences. All residencies will culminate with a final show- which will be entirely new work or work in-progress. This performance has the option to be broadcast by video, live streamed and/or performed in house. Versatile theater/studio: this space acts as both a dance studio for rehearsals and a theater space for resident companies and community groups. Baran dance: baran dance is a professional contemporary dance company based in charlotte, nc. They create dances that make you feel, think, possibly cry, and maybe even laugh. Founded and directed by audrey ipapo baran since 2012, baran dance is known for collaborating with local musicians and artists through multimedia movement experiences.
