“It is imperative that MVP, both in reality and in perception, operates solely in the best interests of the students it serves. Any blemish on its reputation will significantly impact the mission of the school. Employees of MVP must be ever mindful of the need to conduct themselves in an honorable manner both in and outside of the school. Employees have an obligation to conduct their affairs within guidelines that prohibit actual or potential conflicts of interest. Actual or potential conflict of interest occurs when an employee is in a position to influence a decision that may result in a personal gain for him or her, for a relative or for anyone else who has a close personal relationship with the employee as a result of MVP business dealings. For the purpose of this policy, a relative or a person with a close personal relationship is any person who is related by blood or marriage, or whose relationship with the employee is similar to that of persons who are related by blood or marriage. No "presumption of guilt" is created by the mere existence of a relationship with an outside firm or vendor. However, if an employee has any influence on transactions involving purchases, contracts, or supplies it is imperative that he or she discloses that relationship to the principal immediately so that safeguards can be established to protect all parties. Common conflicts that employees should avoid include but are not limited to: -Using proprietary or confidential information for personal gain or to MVP's detriment -Directly or indirectly accepting gifts, loans, services, entertainment, etc. of more than a minimal value from a vendor or someone seeking to do business with MVP -Using MVP's assets or labor for personal use -Instances where an employee or an employee's relative or someone with a close personal relationship has a significant ownership in the vendor or firm with which MVP does business -Engaging in outside employment that would interfere with the employee's full performance of the work for which he or she is employed by the school -In addition to the rules listed above, all MVP employees and trustees must comply with the conflict of interest policy as described in exhibit A of this document. ALL DIRECTORS, OFFICERS AND TRUSTEES OF THE ORGANIZATION MUST ADHERE TO THE CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY. ANY INDIVIDUAL WITH A POSSIBLE CONFLICT SHOULD MAKE A PROMPT, FULL AND FRANK DISCLOSURE TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THROUGH AN ANNUAL DISCLOSURE OF ANY POTENTIAL CONFLICTS. SUCH DISCLOSURE SHALL INCLUDE ALL RELEVANT AND MATERIAL FACTS KNOWN TO SUCH PERSON THAT MIGHT BE CONSTRUED TO BE ADVERSE TO THE BOARD'S INTEREST. IF IT IS DETERMINED THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL CONFLICT, THE INDIVIDUAL WOULD BE EXCLUDED FROM THE DELIBERATIONS OR VOTING ON SAID CONFLICT. ANY RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE PLACED ON THE INDIVIDUAL WITH A CONFLICT ARE DETAILED AND DOCUMENTED.”
“THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AT THE END OF EACH SCHOOL YEAR, EVALUATES PERFORMANCE REVIEWS FOR ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF. THEY THEN AGREE TO SALARY INCREASES AND PERFORMANCE AWARDS. THE BOARD IS PRESENTED WITH COMPARABLE SALARIES AND PERFORMANCE DATA OF SIMILAR ORGANIZATIONS TO ASSIST IN THE DECISION MAKING. THE DELIBERATIONS ARE CONTEMPORANEOUSLY DOCUMENTED AND RECORDS ARE KEPT. This process was last implemented in May 2017.”
“The form 990 is available for public inspection as required under section 6104 of the internal revenue service code. The return is posted on guidestar.org and other similar websites. The conflict of interest policy, articles of incorporation and by-laws are available upon written request to the organization at 6802 metropolitan avenue, middle village, ny 11379, or by calling the organization at 718-869-2933.”
“The audit commmittee is responsible for the oversight of the audit and selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed from the process employed in the prior year.”
“The School recognizes the effect of income tax positions only when they are more likely than not to be sustained. Management has determined that the school had no uncertain tax positions that would require financial statement recognition or disclosure. The school is subject to examination by applicable taxing authorities since inception in 2014.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | In the 2016-17 school year, the fourth of operation, Middle Village Prep was named a "Rewards" School by the New York State Education Department. The Rewards school designation is given to schools that either have high academic achievement or have made the most progress in the State and do not have significant gaps in student achievement between subgroups. There were 220 schools that received that designation state-wide. Middle Village Prep, was one of only 11 charter schools to be named on the list. Middle Village Prep continues to offer full support to its students through the implementation of rigorous curriculum and exciting programs that complement subject core areas. The increase in student enrollment from its original registers of 229 to 370 students has enabled the administration to hire six additional staff members, including three Special Education teachers. MVP's instructional program continues to offer Algebra and Earth Science courses to all its 8th grade students. These high school level courses prepared students to successfully take the Regents for the Algebra 1 and Earth Science Regents exams, of which passing rates reached 85% and 50%, respectively. In addition, 8th graders are given the opportunity to take the Latin proficiency exam of which the passing rate was 85%. These three exams are taking into consideration when our graduating students transition to high school, as they receive credits for each course. This also allow our students to participate and complete advanced placement (AP) college courses in high school. The STEM (Robotics), Health Education and Performance Arts programs continue to be in our scholastic course offerings. We added a full time Visual Arts Program in which all grades have the opportunity to participate. The use of tablets in our 7th & 8th Grade continues to be enhanced, supporting students as they improve their abilities to use technology in different forms: they have access to many resources including the use of Microsoft office for projects and presentations, as well as google classroom for collaborative work. Students at MVP have developed their individual talents, critical to the learning process. Middle Village Prep places a strong emphasis in providing professional development opportunities to all its staff members. This year we secured the coaching and support services from Teachers College Columbia. A team of instructional coaches offer "one to one" support to select teachers and provide whole group training in best teaching practices with a lens on the "Framework for Teaching." The "FFT" identifies those aspects of a teacher's responsibilities that have been documented through empirical studies and theoretical research as promoting improved student learning. Enabling teachers to be truly skillful in their craft through proper training and support, gives our students an assurance that they will successfully transition to their next grade level and will be prepared for College and Career plans. Our teachers prepare our students to attain grade level or higher when it comes to state testing. We use school wide, city and State assessments and data to monitor student progress, as they meet and Master each standard on grade level. The latest data provided by the State and NYC reflects that our school as a whole reached 60% levels of proficiency in Mathematics, an increase of 13% points from the previous year. In ELA, our students demonstrated 56% proficiency, an increase of 12% points in comparison to the previous year. Our students surpassed the proficiency levels for both Math and ELA by 16% points in comparison to the rest of NYS. City wide, our students surpassed the city average of 41% by 17% points in ELA and 27% points in Math. Our students attendance average is 97%, 15% points above NYC public schools. We continue to have students whose average is 90% or higher in all subject areas to be a part of the National Junior Honor Society. The teachers at Middle Village Prep h |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | As mentioned in our Gen Ed program, accomplishments, the Rewards school designation is given to schools that either have high academic achievement or have made the most progress in the State and do not have significant gaps in student achievement between subgroups. MVP's Special Education Staff supports struggling students by using data-driven instruction. Following the NYS Common Core Standards, and setting forth a culture of high expectations, MVP focuses on working diligently to promote independence, so that by the time students graduate from Middle Village Prep they will be successful not only in high school but also for college. Our special education teachers are sent to the most up to date workshop trainings and are constantly making the appropriate modifications and accommodations to those who are performing on or below grade level so that they may be successful not only academically but socially and emotionally. In addition, through assessments, both state and local, our students are performing at proficiency and achieving their measurable goals. Many of MVP's special education Students entered sixth grade performing below grade level and are now performing proficient in both ELA and Math. One of our accomplishments is several of our special education students have been accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. Another accomplishment that we have achieved is to establish a stronger bond among parents, staff and administrators. MVP has set a mission to support academic excellence for all types of learners. We believe that student learning is the main priority and all students can learn to their fullest potential as we prepare them for college and career readiness. |

The School's nondiscriminatory policy is published in newspapers with a general circulation when announcing admission applications and school programs. The nondiscriminatory policy is also available on the School's website. Each year, the School mails postcards to all 5th graders in its local community to solicit and advise potential students of the School's programs. The racially nondiscriminatory policy is also underscored in these publications. |

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | It is imperative that MVP, both in reality and in perception, operates solely in the best interests of the students it serves. ANY RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE PLACED ON THE INDIVIDUAL WITH A CONFLICT ARE DETAILED AND DOCUMENTED. |
