“The original return has been amended as a result of our initial audit. The primary changes relate to grant income pledged in 2022 that we originally deferred to 2023. The auditors concluded the pledges should have been recorded in 2022. This resulted in an approximate adjustment of 178,000 to increase beginning of year fund balance, with a similar reduction in 2023 income. Adjustments to record lease right-of-use assets and liabilities of 114,000 and 116,000, respectively, were also recorded. Minor adjustments for prior year accounts payable were also made.”

“Annual jazz festival and summer camp support: our popular jazz festival not only brings the community together in celebration but also provides critical funding for our summer camp program. This support, in conjunction with another foundation grant, funded 245 camper weeks for 102 neighborhood children, offering them an enriching and safe summer experience. Wills and estate planning for seniors: to ensure our senior residents have access to essential legal support, we provided wills and estate planning services to 12 seniors in the community. This program, funded by a united way grant, empowers seniors to protect their assets and plan for the future. Community garden: the organization also coordinates a community garden that allows residents to grow their own vegetables, reducing the cost of their groceries.”
“Revitalization: in 2023, as part of our revitalization plan, we acquired 8 properties to expand housing options, including new homes and townhomes, which will serve as critical additions to our neighborhood's future. Additionally, we successfully worked with the state authorities to obtain 500,000 in funding to support the pre-development phase of our revitalization plan. This funding will cover essential activities like surveys and the demolition of 5 vacant homes we've acquired, clearing the way for new construction and community improvements. (please note that 2023 program expenses for this initiative do not include 1,177,344 spent for property acquisitions.) lead pipe replacement: committed to residents' health and safety, we used a 250,000 grant to replace lead pipes in 10 homes across the neighborhood, ensuring clean and safe drinking water for these families. Critical home repairs and relocation support: to enhance housing security, we provided critical home repairs for 10 residents, with relocation assistance during the repair period totaling 20,000. Additionally, we support 3 residents with ongoing relocation assistance, as their homes were too unsafe to inhabit. Maintaining this program requires 52,000 annually to ensure resident safety and housing stability. New homeowners cohort: in support of our vision for long-term neighborhood stability, we created a new homeowners cohort, guiding 5 residents toward future homeownership in the community. This program, funded by a 15,000 grant, fosters a sense of belonging and investment among residents, strengthening the fabric of smithville.”

THIS PROGRAM, FUNDED BY A 15,000 GRANT, FOSTERS A SENSE OF BELONGING AND INVESTMENT AMONG RESIDENTS, STRENGTHENING THE FABRIC OF SMITHVILLE. |

MINOR ADJUSTMENTS FOR PRIOR YEAR ACCOUNTS PAYABLE WERE ALSO MADE. |

COMMUNITY GARDEN: THE ORGANIZATION ALSO COORDINATES A COMMUNITY GARDEN THAT ALLOWS RESIDENTS TO GROW THEIR OWN VEGETABLES, REDUCING THE COST OF THEIR GROCERIES. |
