Mission

The association's mission is to encourage and promote the safe and environmentally sound use of bituminous asphalt products throughout the state of maine. The association is an advocate for a unified industry voice and provides a forum for advancing teamwork and the education process within the asphalt industry, its members' clients and the driving public, and through this proactive process, it provides the best, most economical enhancements to maine's transportation infrastructure.

THE ASSOCIATION HOLDS AN ANNUAL PAVING SEMINAR TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS. THE SEMINAR INCLUDES MINI-EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS FOCUSED ON PROPER PAVING TECHNIQUES, LATEST TECHNOLOGIES, AND SAFETY. IT ALSO INCLUDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ATTENDEES TO VIEW THE LASTEST IN INDUSTRY EQUIPMENT. THE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING OFFERS OPPORTUNITY FOR DISCUSSION OF CURRENT ISSUES, AND THE QUARTERLY NEWSLETTERS PROVIDE INFORMATION RELEVANT TO THE MEMBERS. MAPA AWARDED FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING 3,000 IN 2020. RECIPIENTS WERE SELECTED BY THE BOARD FROM A POOL OF QUALIFYING APPLICANTS. Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Mapa is a state-wide organization that provides a unified voice for all asphalt related businesses in maine. The association holds an annual paving seminar to educate and train industry professionals. The seminar includes mini-educational workshops focused on proper paving techniques, latest technologies, and safety. It also includes an opportunity for attendees to view the lastest in industry equipment. The annual membership meeting offers opportunity for discussion of current issues, and the quarterly newsletters provide information relevant to the members. Mapa awarded four scholarships totaling 3,000 in 2020. Recipients were selected by the board from a pool of qualifying applicants. In 2020, mapa held its first golf tournament which provided networking opportunities while raising money to help support mapa efforts throughout the year as well as helping to support our scholarship fund. Mapa also started a program called the pave maine awards in 2019 which is a yearly award given to applicants who meet the highest level of asphalt paving in 4 different categories.

Form 990-ez, Part V, Line 34

On june 24, 2020 the following changes to the by-laws were adopted: composition of the board of directors - producer members must hold a minimum of 51% of the board of directors. Only producer members can be elected officers. Other changes included adding liquid suppliers as regular members and clarifying duties of the president.

THE ASSOCIATION HOLDS AN ANNUAL PAVING SEMINAR TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS. THE SEMINAR INCLUDES MINI-EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS FOCUSED ON PROPER PAVING TECHNIQUES, LATEST TECHNOLOGIES, AND SAFETY. IT ALSO INCLUDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ATTENDEES TO VIEW THE LASTEST IN INDUSTRY EQUIPMENT. THE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING OFFERS OPPORTUNITY FOR DISCUSSION OF CURRENT ISSUES, AND THE QUARTERLY NEWSLETTERS PROVIDE INFORMATION RELEVANT TO THE MEMBERS. MAPA AWARDED FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING 3,000 IN 2020. RECIPIENTS WERE SELECTED BY THE BOARD FROM A POOL OF QUALIFYING APPLICANTS. IN 2020, MAPA HELD ITS FIRST GOLF TOURNAMENT WHICH PROVIDED NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES WHILE RAISING MONEY TO HELP SUPPORT MAPA EFFORTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AS WELL AS HELPING TO SUPPORT OUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND. MAPA ALSO STARTED A PROGRAM CALLED THE PAVE MAINE AWARDS IN 2019 WHICH IS A YEARLY AWARD GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WHO MEET THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF ASPHALT PAVING IN 4 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES.

ONLY PRODUCER MEMBERS CAN BE ELECTED OFFICERS. OTHER CHANGES INCLUDED ADDING LIQUID SUPPLIERS AS REGULAR MEMBERS AND CLARIFYING DUTIES OF THE PRESIDENT.
