Mission

To provide funding for the finest collaborative research teams at four world-class beneficiaries located in San Diego. It is our goal that research funded by Padres Pedal the Cause will lead to increased survivorship and ultimately, cures for cancer. 100 of all donations go directly to our beneficiaries.

Curebound seeks to improve life for those around the world facing cancer by developing the tools with which we prevent, diagnose, treat, and ultimately cure cancer. We believe that the San Diego community has the unique resources and spirit of collaboration to significantly improve patient outcomes and care. We are passionate about our mission of mobilizing San Diego to accelerate cures for cancer in our lifetime. Curebound is committed to investing 100 million dollars into collaborative cancer research in San Diego to make the vision of cures in our lifetime a reality. Over the last decade, since the inception of Padres Pedal the Cause, the Immunotherapy Foundation, and now Curebound, we have funded over 110 research grants that explore 87 adult cancer projects, 28 pediatric cancer projects, and 6 pioneering clinical trials, totaling over 34.5 million dollars invested. The uniqueness of our funding model is further validated by the social impact multiplier demonstrated by our grant recipients receiving 13 dollars in additional funding for every 1 dollar invested by Curebound.

This year alone, nearly two million people will be diagnosed with cancer, and it is the number two cause of death in the United States. Our mission is to mobilize San Diego to accelerate cures for cancer in our lifetime. And the vision of Curebound is a world without cancer. Curebound is headquartered in San Diego amidst a unique combination of three NCI cancer centers, clinical care hospitals, biotech companies, venture capital investors, philanthropic networks, and most importantly- a regional culture that embraces the spirit of collaboration. This ecosystem positions San Diego and Curebound at the forefront of discovery bringing genomic medicine, new technologies and clinical trials to market and presents an unprecedented opportunity for research collaboration. We believe that the next decade will be critical to the development of sophisticated, personalized approaches in the way we prevent, treat, and ultimately find cures for cancer.

We established the Cancer Research Roadmap to fund the most promising, innovative oncology research across all cancer types in alignment with five scientific investment pillars Prevention and Diagnostic Tools, Novel Approaches and New Therapeutic Platforms, Immunotherapies and Personalized Vaccines, Cancer Equites, and Pediatric Cancers.
