The Aphasia Network promotes aphasia awareness and provides communication support and resources to individuals with aphasia and their families or support teams to assist in reconnecting and rebuilding their lives after diagnosis. This nonprofit organization seeks to network people together through its programs and activities. We view these connections or reconnections as the threads that cross and create a fabric or structure of support for those with aphasia and their families or support networks. The Aphasia Network is formed by an interconnected group of individuals consisting of persons with aphasia, their family or other loved ones, allied rehabilitation professionals, educators and care providers, all with the common thread of aphasia. Just as the effects of aphasia become interwoven throughout lives, The Aphasia Network's activities contribute programs that focus on quality of life, community and support, and daily life survival resources.

| Aphasia Camp Northwest Adventure Weekend is a program with Pacific University at the beautiful Oregon coast. The program provides an opportunity for aphasia survivors and their care partners to bond through adventures, and grow together through new activities -- A weekend designed to help attendees step out of their comfort zone with safe, supported activities, to explore their goals, and experience adventure again. Facilitated communication in natural settings, socializing, and trying or re-experiencing recreational interests are at the core of this program. The Aphasia Network provides the organizational needs for the camp and its activities while the university faculty and other professionals oversee the clinical aspects of camp, including student training and supervision. The 2017 Camp served 31 aphasia survivors, and 26 caregivers. The program also contributed to the educational experience of 28 students from the participating universities. | $1,875 | $20,586 |
| The Couples Retreat is a weekend program that gives persons with aphasia and their spouses an opportunity to reconnect and strengthen their bond as a couple in a fun, social setting at the beautiful Oregon Coast! Together with a speech and occupational therapy student team, and in professionally-led groups, couples will discuss and form individualized coping methods for the challenges of married life with aphasia side-by-side with other couples facing similar challenges. Group sessions provide a supportive environment for opportunities to discuss concerns and strategies and how to nurture one's primary relationship as we explore, together with professionals and peer mentors, topics such as changing roles; how to revitalize former interests and new activities to share together; how aphasia and related conditions affect intimacy and relationships; and how to develop resources to rekindle the relationship. In 2017, 11 couples attended (limited to 15 couples), along with 25 students. | $1,100 | $10,956 |
| The Spring Workshop is conducted on the Campus of Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. This is a one-day program designed for survivors and care partners to work one-on-one with speech and occupational therapy students from Pacific University to problem solve their individual needs. The majority of the day is spent finding new communication tools and strategies with communication tools and communication books. Independent living tools and strategies for daily living, as well as leisure and recreational activities, are also incorporated into this program. The 2017 Spring Workshop served 20 survivors, and 15 communication partners. The program also contributed to the educational experience of 42 students from the participating university. | $65 | $921 |
| During 2017, there were three affiliated support groups in the Portland area that provide individuals experiencing aphasia and family members the opportunity to develop a sense of community with others impacted by aphasia. These groups are organized and run by participants. The Aphasia Network seeks to provide assistance to these groups by supplying connections to new members; access to programs; materials and suggested content for meetings to facilitate conversation and reduce frustration and isolation; and limited funding for activities. During 2017, The Aphasia Network received $5,775 non-cash gifts in-kind to support its programs, and $8,650 non-cash gifts in-kind to support its administrative activities. These amounts have been excluded from revenue and expenses in the return. | $0 | $0 |
