THEREFORE, TOGETHER RISING FUNDED AL OTRO LADO IN THE AMOUNT OF $375,000 TO HELP (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)LOCATE AND REUNIFY THESE FAMILIES WITH THEIR CHILDREN AND TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY WHILE THEY AWAIT ASYLUM PROCEEDINGS. AN ADDITIONAL $9,679.91 WAS DISTRIBUTED TO THOSE FAMILIES FOR IMMEDIATE AND URGENT PHYSICAL NEEDS. IN JUNE, TOGETHER RISING HELD AN ONLINE FUNDRAISER TO ACTIVATE AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND LONG-TERM LEGAL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE CHILD DETENTION CRISIS. $2 MILLION WAS RAISED IN THE FIRST 2 DAYS. IN TOTAL, $2,700,000 WAS DISTRIBUTED TO THE FOLLOWING ORGANIZATIONS: IMMIGRATION LAW CLINIC AT UC DAVIS ($900,000), NATIONAL CENTER FOR YOUTH LAW ($900,000), JUSTICE IN MOTION ($800,000), AND IMMIGRATION DEFENDERS LAW CENTER ($100,000). THESE FUNDS SUPPORTED EMERGENCY INSPECTIONS OF DETENTION CENTER CONDITIONS AND PROVIDED FOR THE PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY NEEDED FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE DETAINED CHILDREN; MOBILIZED A DEFENDER NETWORK TO LOCATE AND ACCESS THE PARENTS OF DETAINED CHILDREN TO FACILITATE THE RELEASE OF THE CHILDREN AND REUNIFICATION WITH THEIR FAMILIES; AND BOLSTERED CAPACITY TO FILE LITIGATION ON BEHALF OF CHILDREN WHO WERE DETAINED ILLEGALLY, AS WELL AS INDIVIDUAL HABEAS CORPUS PETITIONS IN FEDERAL COURT WHEN CHILDREN ARE ILLEGALLY HELD FOR MORE THAN 72 HOURS IN DETENTION. THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER, TOGETHER RISING DEPLOYED AN ADDITIONAL $850,000 RAISED TO IMMIGRATION DEFENDERS LAW CENTER ($100,000), AL OTRO LADO ($200,000), KIDS IN NEED OF DEFENSE ($350,000), AND SAFE PASSAGE ($200,000). THESE FUNDS SUPPORTED THE CONTINUATION OF THE VITAL WORK ON BEHALF OF SEPARATED AND ASYLUM-SEEKING FAMILIES, INCLUDING HELPING UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN AT THE BORDER PREPARE THEIR PETITIONS FOR ASYLUM AND ACCOMPANYING THEM WHEN THEY PRESENT TO U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION; MONITORING TREATMENT AND CONDITIONS FOR UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN SEEKING ACCESS TO MEXICO AND THE UNITED STATES; AND PROVIDING DEDICATED ATTORNEYS AND SOCIAL WORK SERVICES FOR CHILDREN DETAINED IN HORRENDOUS CONDITIONS AT THE BORDER. IN DECEMBER, TOGETHER RISING FURTHER SUPPORTED THE CONTINUATION OF THIS WORK WITH GRANTS TO ALDEA - THE PEOPLE'S JUSTICE CENTER ($80,000) FOR LITIGATION ADVOCACY FOR DETAINED CHILDREN AND TO AL OTRO LADO ($120,750) FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR REUNIFIED REFUGEE FAMILIES DURING THE WAIT FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION DOCUMENTS AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS TO ENABLE MORE EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT ADVOCACY EFFORTS.TOGETHER RISING FOR DISASTER RELIEF: OUR SECOND LARGEST PROGRAM WAS DISTRIBUTING CRITICAL ASSISTANCE FOR FAMILIES IMPACTED BY NATURAL DISASTERS. THE BOARD VOTED TO APPROVE A TOTAL OF $265,991.32 IN GRANTS. IN EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO HURRICANE DORIAN IN THE BAHAMAS, TOGETHER RISING SENT $50,000 TO DIRECT RELIEF FOR MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND TREATMENT FOR THOSE SUFFERING AFTER DEVASTATING DESTRUCTION.
