Journey To Normal, Inc. provides educational and informational services to Veterans, mental health, medical and other professionals, and members of the general public through the distribution of its short and feature-length documentaries and by providing such individuals access to online video archives and related resources.

Documentary Film Development and Production: In 2016 Journey to Normal completed the majority of post-production work on the feature length documentary film Journey to Normal: Women of War Come Home, which recognizes the strength and resiliency of our women in uniform and explores the unique challenges they face rejoining their families and communities after a deployment to the combat zone. Post-production accomplishments include:creation of motion graphics for title sequencecreation of motion graphics, text, and animation for the Sinkler film sequencecreation of lower thirds composition of all creditscreation of text and graphics for film epiloguepost-production sound engineering, including multiple reviews by all post-production personnelcomposition of song for end credit roll of JTN, with original lyrics and music; record all instrumental and vocal parts for song; sound engineering on original songpost-production engineering of video and audio for output to multiple final-form media (e.g. DVD, Blu-Ray, DCP)secure licensing on all media and music$20,000-
In 2016, Journey to Normal, Inc. continued to refine the curriculum for the Walking It In program, and educated an additional 90 professionals who completed the 15-contact-hour training. Walking It In, provides an in-depth educational experience on the issues and challenges faced by members of todays military and their families. The course consists of seven modules and uses a balance of engaging presentations, short films, group discussion, and readings so that participants develop a rich and practical understanding of the modern military experience. Journey to Normal, Inc. has assembled a team of multiple skills to support Walking It In. COL Thomas Stokes, a trained social worker and combat veteran, serves as the lead instructor: Andrew Swensen, a trained educator with multiple university faculty appointments, serves as group discussion facilitator and provides direction on curriculum design; JulieHera DeStefano directs media production. The curriculum takes the approach of training the trainer in order to keep expanding the reach of awareness, and with that awareness creating the connection and trust necessary to intervene upstream that is, before any situation ever reaches a crisis point. The curriculum is built on principles practiced in the theater of operations of Afghanistan, and its two key components are: 1) proactive engagement of veterans before they ever seek help, and 2) training networks to establish pathways for this engagement. Specific accomplishments included: Walking It In follow up sessions on 1/20, 3/25, 4/5 to follow up with cohort who trained at the end of 2015 Full 15-hour training session of Walking It In, 4/4 and 4/8, with follow-up sessions for the entire cohort built partnership with the PA Serves network of VSOs in SW Pennsylvania$14,154$12,500
Community Education and Awareness: Journey to Normal, Inc. is an ongoing project in educating the public and professionals who serve veterans regarding the experiences of women who have served in the combat zone and their experiences returning to family and community. Presentations made and populations reached in 2016 included: 3/1 DeStefano presentation and screening of JTN short film to the US Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh, PA4/1 DeStefano and Kester presentation and screening of JTN short film to University of Michigan Department of Nursing, Flint, MI4/29 DeStefano continuing education presentation and screening of JTN short film to Westmoreland/Fayette Bar Association, Penn State Eberly Campus, 4/30 DeStefano presentation to United Methodist Women, Pittsburgh, PA6/17 DeStefano presentation to VA Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA9/20 DeStefano and Swensen screening of feature-length documentary to our DAV partners, Washington, DC11/4 DeStefano graduation address, Veterans Court of Fayette County, Uniontown, PA11/9 DeStefano and Kester screening of feature-length documentary and facilitation of panel discussion, University of Michigan School of Nursing, Flint, MI11/11 DeStefano presentation and JTN short film screening at Chatham University, and presentation at Chathams Center for Womens Entrepreneurship, Pittsburgh, PA11/12 DeStefano keynote presentation at the annual conference of the Crisis Intervention Association of Pennsylvania.The total number of people reached in these presentations was 2,500$2,704-
