ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0On behalf of Empowerment Academy, Inc., we respectfully request abatement of penalties assessed for the late filing of our 2024 990EZ return. The delay in filing was due to circumstances beyond the organization's control. In the fall of last year, the agency's bookkeeper experienced a serious medical illness that required frequent and extended hospitalizations. As a small nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on this individual for the preparation, reconciliation, and maintenance of our financial records. Due to the unexpected and recurring nature of the illness, we were unable to obtain complete and accurate financial documentation in a timely manner. Efforts were made to engage an alternate procedure for the transfer of financial information to a software-based system, but that was significantly delayed because the necessary records and institutional knowledge were not readily accessible during the bookkeeper's medical crisis. The organization acted in good faith and exercised ordinary business care and prudence under the circumstances. We have since implemented additional internal controls and contingency procedures to prevent a recurrence of this issue. We remain committed to meeting all federal filing requirements in a timely manner. We respectfully request that the IRS consider these circumstances as reasonable cause and abate the penalties assessed. Thank you for your consideration. /s/ Sonia Roberts Executive Director Empowerment Academy, Inc.
