Performance review and compensation of the executive director is currently performed by the executive committee and approved by the entire board. Criteria are prepared by the executive committee based upon yearly goals established by the executive director. The executive director also prepares a self evaluation in the context of the previously established goals. Annual raises have been given effective on the anniversary date of hiring. In consultation with the human resource committee, revised performance evaluation criteria will be approved by the board this month and future reviews will use these criteria. In 2018, a new performance management program was put in place that is considered for all staff compensation increases.

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 2

The organization expanded operations due to the rising number of people who are food insecure. Using a donated refrigerated sprinter van, which has allowed rescue of more food and increases to staff, a new program was launched for delivering freshly prepared meals to those in need.

Effects of Covid-19

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, second helpings atlanta had to shift its operations to ensure the health and safety of all staff and volunteers. Almost 40% of our volunteers are 60 and over, and we decided to hire part-time drivers to ensure we could maintain our operations and continue our mission. This resulted in unexpected expenses, but fortunately, we were able to adjust our budget in other places. We received a ppp loan from the sba, and our bank has currently not opened forgiveness applications. They have indicated that they will begin to do that in the spring of 2021 and because we used all of the funds for payroll, hired additional temporary staff, and did not reduce any hours, we expect the loan to be forgiven. We have expanded our operations due to the rising number of people who are food insecure. We received a donated refrigerated sprinter van which has allowed us to rescue more food and increase our staff and we launched a new program where we are now delivering freshly prepared meals. 2020 was a record year for us, and between the food we rescued and the prepared meal program, we distributed two million meals in metro atlanta.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The preparation of financial statements in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states requires the organization to report information regarding its exposure to various tax positions taken by the organization. Management believes that the organization has adequately addressed all relevant tax positions and that there are no unrecorded tax liabilities. Management is not aware of any circumstances or transactions that would jeopardize its tax exempt status.

IRS990/Desc0THE VALUE OF THE RESCUED FOOD IS CALCULATED AT $1.62/LB. WE RESCUED 1,909,547 POUNDS OF FOOD IN 2020. THEREFORE, THE VALUE OF THIS FOOD IS $3,093,466. THIS AMOUNT WAS INCLUDED IN BOTH STATEMENT OF REVENUE PART VIII AND STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONAL EXPENSES PART IX. IN ADDITION, WE PARTNERED WITH ATLANTA COMMUNITY FOOD BANK TO PROVIDE PREPARED MEALS. WE CONVERTED THE NUMBER OF MEALS TO POUNDS BY USING THE USDA/FEEDING AMERICA ACCEPTED MULTIPLIER (1.2 POUNDS=1 MEAL), AND THEN MULTIPLIED THOSE POUNDS BY THE SAME DOLLAR VALUE OF $1.62/LB.
