Livable Lents / Lents StrongBegan implementation of the Lents Strong community action plan based on 1,500 survey responses over the previous five years. Livable Lents conducts broad outreach to engage members of our community in the creating of a more thriving, livable Lents. In 2016, outreach was conducted primarily in English, with some work being done to engage with Spanish, Russian, and Vietnamese speaking community members. Focus group discussions were hosted in early 2016 to increase the participation of community members who aren't as typically represented in city planning processes. We focused closely on the Lents Green Ring project, an effort that seeks to connect people, places, and pollinators across difficult barriers in Lents. We also pursued the creation of a Housing Affordability program in response to community input. Began engaging with partners on air quality concerns, including several community events exploring Lents' unique vulnerability to air toxins.Community Tool LibraryOperated a free tool-lending service in the Lents Town Center. Completed 2,614 new tool loans and 1,305 renewals, for a total of 3,919 tool rental periods of approximately one week. This comprised of 2,185 distinct member visits, and approximately 124 volunteer shifts and at least 400 volunteer hours.Pollinator HabitatMentored additional Lents Youth Initiative interns and created multiple pollinator habitat sites including the Brilliant Peace Garden, and another site with ROSE Community Development. Also conducted educational and maintenance visits to existing pollinator sites.Malden Court Community OrchardBegan orienting this exciting community space to the public, including installing physical signage. Pursued funding for upgrades, including a previous concrete path, solar lighting, and expanded drip irrigation.$59,587-
