The finance committee reviews and approves the form 990 and recommend board approval. The board reviews the form 990 prior to filing with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

Data consisting of compensation from comparable non-profits of like size is reviewed by the internal affairs commitee prior to determining the compensation of officers and key employees. Compensation best practice is to remain within 20 of the operating budget. The executive committee reviews the data as well as performance metrics that include program finacne and management and makes a recommendation to the board for approval. The board approves the compensation and documents in the meeting minutes. The most recent compensation review took place in 2022 for executive director, Josh Reimnitz.

IRS990/Desc0Summer Program: We were thrilled that our programming has returned to full in-person. Students were so excited to be back in person. Our summer 2022 five-and-a-half-week, intensive summer program was held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 and ended with a celebration on Saturday, August 6, 2022. We hosted 70 students at Chaska High School, 131 students at Humboldt High School, and 144 students at Mounds Park Academy for a total of 349 7th - 9th grade students. Each student received 90 minutes of science and math instruction each day, 90 minutes of literature and writing each day, and participated in at least one additional elective (Total of 101.25 hours of instruction.) Students also went on field trips for college exploration, learning about State government and touring the Minnesota State Capitol and much more. Summer program attendance was 81% during our 5.5-week program with COVID and other illnesses impacting attendance. Lesson plans were routinely evaluated by our Instructional Coaches who met and mentored our Teaching Fellows four days per week through the summer. Our Breakthrough Leaders Program (BLP) is for our rising ninth-grade students to develop their leadership skills and getting ready for high-school. Students are introduced to new and challenging scenarios outside of their comfort zone and learn to lean on each other for support. In July 2022, 47 9th grade students were excited and had looked forward to becoming a BLP and experiencing a four-day/three-night retreat at St. John's University. Upon their return, our BLPs took the lead in developing the theme for a week, determining and leading student activities as well as supporting the Teaching Fellows. Outcomes: 65% of Middle School Students were enrolled in at least one honors course per term in school, 74% of Middle School Students reported feeling better prepared or the next school year because of BTC, 84% of Middle School Students reported that they belong in a supportive environment at BTC, 80% of Middle School Students reported that they have strong, positive college- going role models at BTC. School Year and College Bound During the 2022-2023 school year, we served 533 middle and high school students. Our students are required to meet at least two of the following criteria to be eligible to participate: 98% identify as a race that is underrepresented in college, 86% of BTC students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, 68% speak a language at home other than English, 77% will be first generation college students 29% live in a single parent household, Our School Year Saturday Sessions kicked off on September 25, 2022. We welcomed back our students from the Summer program as well as our rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. We have experienced strong attendance at our Saturday sessions, especially with the continuation of activities from summer including college and Town Hall meetings. Our Saturday Sessions have included learning how different cultures celebrate holidays, career exploration with panels of professionals sharing about their college and career pathways, financial literacy, and in April a field trip for a college visit. Our May session concluded with a school-year celebration and recognition of our graduating seniors. For our 11 th and 12 th graders, we hosted ACT preparation and college essay workshops. All students received monthly check-ins with their BTC advisors to check in on grades, electives, extra curriculars, resources needed, goal setting, problem-solving,?mental health, etc. Outcomes 80%of High School Students reported enrollment in at least one honors course per term in school, 100% of BTC seniors graduated from high school in four years with a weighted GPA of 3.74, and 276 total college acceptances, 100% of students who applied were accepted into post-secondary institutions with 98% of graduates attending college this fall, 1% joined the military, and 1% taking a gap year.
