“Each year we travel to the dominican republic for a medical mission trip bringing suitcases packed with medications and basic hygienic supplies including anti-parasitic medications, vitamins, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pain and fever madications and other basic remedies. These may be easily available to us in the u.s but are not always available in those remote communities. We support and assist the travel needs of the medical students who join and support the trip as well as working with the local organizations that help these communities year round. We strive to combine the provision of otherwise unavailable expertise with education to both the needy community to improve their ability to handle the issues year round as well as to the medical student community to instill a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that we hope will result in a lifetime of giving.”
“Days after hurricane maria hit puerto rico hope & health project recognized a need to bring their unique ability to mobilize medical resources in times of disaster. Accordingly, we began mobilizing efforts for items needed to send relief to the island. We partnered with different organizations, scheduled warehouses, pick ups, drop off's, airplanes etc. As soon as the airport was open and the permission given we were able to send items like: bottled water, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, diapers, canned foods, dry foods, baby formula, garbage bags, towels, canned milk, canned and dry pet food, pain relief medicine, stomach and diarrhea relief medicine, mosquito repellent, blankets, pillows, first aid kits, laundry detergents, dish soap. Also construction supplies such as extension cords, ground fault protectors, pop up canopies, shovels, wheelbarrows, crowbars, hammers, utility knives, work gloves, wood panels, electric generators, electric cables, tarp, ropes, chainsaws, safety glasses. We have continued to expand this effort in the face of more recent disasters and needs.”
