“The foundation's officers review and approve the form 990 before submission.”
“Annually, each trustee is expected to report conflict of interests to the board of trustees.”
“The foundation makes its form 1023, form 990 and its organizational documents available for public inspection upon request and via the massachusetts public charity website.”
“Grants from the polynera fund, carina initiatives, the international mathematical union and others provided deeply appreciated mission support during 2023. The promys foundation is grateful to all its sponsors and donors who make it possible for promys participants to attend regardless of financial background.”
“1. Breakout fellowship - the 2024 breakout fellowship to promys, the 10th year of the fellowship, was awarded to emily cho-sayegh from new jersey. Terence tao, richard taylor, and jacob lurie, recipients of the inaugural breakthrough prizes in mathematics, very generously created and funded the breakout fellowship to promys. The breakout fellowship is a full scholarship to promys for a mathematically talented student who might not otherwise be able to attend. Thanks to the generosity and vision of the alum community, the breakout fellowship endowment assures the future of the breakout fellowships: there will be a breakout fellow in every promys cohort. 2. Promys for teachers - promys for teachers (pft) 2024 ran on the campus of boston university. Academic year seminars workshops were offered to help teachers unpack the pedagogical approaches used at promys to enrich the mathematical experience in their own classrooms. Another important goal of the workshops is to establish an ongoing professional network of teachers, mathematics educators, and research mathematicians. Nineteen first-year teachers and 2 returning teachers took part in promys for teachers in 2024.. Although most of the participants are local from massachusetts, teachers traveled from canada, china, connecticut, new jersey, and new york to attend. Pft is exceptional in immersing secondary teachers in rigorous exploratory mathematics and for being offered free to teachers. 3. Yongren fellowship - promys was delighted to welcome yixiang you to boston as a 2024 yongren fellow from beijing, china. In addition, the 2022 yongren fellow, jiushan xie, now an undergraduate at kings college, london, returned to promys as a counselor in 2024. 4. Jane street fellowships - the promys foundation is very grateful to jane street for its generous support for promys 2024 including two jane street fellowships for students, two jane street fellowships for counselors, and support for promys pathways designed for highly motivated students of mathematics in the boston area who are from low-income backgrounds or from other groups underrepresented in stem. Jane street also gave generous support to promys india and promys europe. 5. Packard foundation grant - promys foundation is excited and grateful to have been awarded a $225,000 grant for general support from the david and lucile packard foundation for promys india 2023-2025. The second summer of promys india ran in 2024 at the indian institute of science (iisc) bangalore. Thanks to the generosity of our partners and sponsors, promys india 2024 was free for all students. 6. Promys pathways - promys pathways provides deep mathematical experiences to students who are from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in stem and to those who might not otherwise have access to extracurricular mathematics opportunities. These opportunities include the pathways summer program, weekly math circles, and special collaborative events. 2024 was the 3rd summer of the promys pathways summer program on the campus of boston university. The 4-week program is free to participants, including public transportation costs and lunches. A record thirty massachusetts students participated in the full program, recruited from promys pathways math circles, pft alumni classes, stem outreach events, and local financial aid applicants to promys who were not accepted this year.”
“The breakout fellowships term endowment fund will be used to provide full scholarship to promys for a mathematically talented student who might not otherwise be able to attend.”
