“Borehole repairs there are many borehole wells throughout the country of malawi that are in disrepair. In the past, other ngo's have drilled new wells without a community empowerment approach and with no training for the communities on the maintenance, repair or part sourcing channels. Freshwater project international rehabilitates these wells so that they, once again, produce clean water.”
“Flood relief in january 2015, heavy rainstorms in malawi led to severe flooding in low- lying areas throughout the country. Hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes and communities. It is estimated that about 1.15 million people country-wide were affected. Many areas remained isolated as rains hampered search and rescue efforts, as well as responder's ability to provide essential services such as food and clean water. The massive flooding in malawi subsided. However, many people returned to homes and villages destroyed, flooded crops, fear of hunger and spread of cholera as they sought to recover from flood-ravaged areas. Freshwater project international was able to make direct, emergency interventions in phalombe and tengani districts to help with immediate humanitarian needs for clean, safe water, hand soap, and food rations.”
“New borehole drilling in summer of 2015, freshwater project international was able to purchase a drill rig in malawi to drill deep borehole wells. The purchase allows us to execute borehole projects for around 60% less than its previous cost. Drilling provides an exponential increase in access to safe, clean drinking water, reduced incidences of water-related infections, increased time for girls to attend classes in school, significant reduction of costs of well projects, assurance that wells are drilled efficiently and effectively so that trust is built with communities and increased sustainable local fundraising for office operations and other projects through rental income generated through other ngo's and sponsors.”
