IRS990ScheduleF/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0BFB FOUNDATION MAKES GRANTS TO VARIOUS SCHOOLS, AND AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS DIRECTLY TO INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS. A SMALL PORTION OF THE GRANTS TO SCHOOLS ARE USED FOR EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, WHICH THE SCHOOLS SUBSTANTIATE BY PROVIDING BFBF WITH A LIST OF SPECIFIC MATERIALS PURCHASED. THE MAJORITY OF FUNDS GRANTED TO SCHOOLS ARE USED FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS AS SCHOLARSHIPS OR TUITION REDUCTIONS; THE SCHOOLS PROVIDE BFB FOUNDATION WITH AN ANNUAL REPORT, LISTING THE STUDENTS WHOSE TUITION HAS BEEN PAID BY THE GRANT FUNDS. THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS IN RECEIPT OF DIRECT SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS GO THROUGH AN APPLICATION PROCESS, AND ARE VETTED BEFORE THE GRANT IS DISBURSED. SINCE EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT GRANT IS A RELATIVELY SMALL AMOUNT AND IS INTENDED TO ASSIST STUDENTS WITH A BROAD ARRAY OF EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES (BOOKS, TRANSPORTATION, INTERNET ACCESS), THE ORGANIZATION DOES NOT MONITOR USE OF THESE FUNDS BEYOND THE ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATION.
