“Our promary program comes from the 180 degrees program (california based non-profit). The program is for early teens to mid-twenties, and it meets 4 days per week (in public school setting). Each day, the program consists of the following: homework support, life-skills classes, and training program. Our program stands out from others in that we serve aproximately 200 youth in the ms-ark delta annually with a 12-hour/week program, which is proven to increase adacemic success and reduce court referrals. For our life-skills classes, we utilize a 12-chapter handbook which includes character education, value training, 21st century skills, life skills, social/emotional learning, financial literacy and community service. Also, our porgram addresses the lack of parental involvement in our community's youth. We are able to offer this program through our parenting class that meets once per week. Our executive director and executive assistant have put together a curriculum using past educational opportunities as well as experiences. Finally, we offer a leadership class consisting of high school juniors and seniors from various high schools around washington county, ms. This program meets monthly and has various speakers come address the class (business owners, political leaders, religious leaders, militry etc.). The class is also required to complete a community service project by year end.”
