IRS990/Description0EDUCATION PROGRAM: Serve as teacher voice group by providing various opportunities for teachers to engage with policy makers and other stakeholdersSome of our key programs included:1) The launch of our Teacher Evaluation Playbook -- an online toolkit, an evolving "best-practices" repository that describes the process and resources used to engage teachers around reinventing educator evaluation with the input of many voices. The information in the Playbook builds on Hope Street Group's years of work on teacher-based evaluation reform efforts and represents over 200 pages of interviews with policymakers, teachers, private-sector consultants and more who have direct experience designing evaluation systems, including an in-depth look into the engagement efforts used by first-round Race to the Top-winning states, Delaware and Tennessee. The Playbook seeks to build understanding into how policymakers are overcoming some of the most difficult aspects of reforms, including successfully engaging teachers and designing reliable student assessments. We launched the beta Playbook across more than twenty-five states (including in-person and phone meetings) and are consistently in communication with contacts from these states, working with them to use the Playbook and also asking for feedback to enhance the Playbook. We also know that the Playbook is being used by state level policymakers, which is the core audience for whom we intended the Playbook. 2) We scaled and institutionalized our National Teacher Fellow Program - This is a highly competitive opportunity for classroom teachers and school instructional coaches from across the country who are leaders among their peers and want to contribute their ideas and expertise to help shape national policy. By contributing fifteen to twenty hours a month, they participated in meaningful online and in-person dialogue with other outstanding teachers from across the country, sharing their experiences with reform and advocating for education policy changes. National Teacher Fellows serve as local and national spokes people for teachers' ideas and perspectives. This professional development opportunity includes learning about other state reform efforts; learning media skills and receiving support in writing blog-posts, op-eds, and letters to the editor; meeting directly with leading policymakers to share teacher views and to present teacher-generated solutions; and receiving invitations to national teacher voice events.

IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTest0Part II, Line 17a--The Organization solicits contributions from the General Public in the following ways:1) The Organization has a database of contributors going back more than 5 years. The individuals included in such database receive periodic updates; some of those updates ask for solicitations. At the end of June 2012, the database has increased to 4,000 from about 3,800 in June 2011.2) A website that is available to anyone. There is a link on the home page to make donations online and also provides an address for mailing contributions.3) Larger donors receive additional mailings and/or mailings about key updates and upcoming events.4) Board members and other key people associated with the organization consistently host luncheons, dinners and other events with small to medium groups of people to introduce them to the organization in the hope that they will get involved with the organization. One of the ways of getting involved, but not the only way, is financial giving.5) There is information available to people attending public events put on by the organization such as the bipartisan working group dinners and various salons, to donate to the organization. Please also note the following:1) Hope Street Group (HSG) is supported by a number public charities, individuals and private foundations. The public support percent calculation for FYE June 2012 is 30.11 that is only a small amount below the 33 1/3%. This reflects significant growth, financially, against the 25.75% in the 990 Tax Return at June 2011. 2) The private foundation funding comes primarily from 4 private foundations that are independent of each other. No board members of any funding Private Foundation are board members of HSG; with one exception, none of the board members of HSG sit on the boards of any funding foundation. Therefore, the private foundations have very little ability to control the policies and operations of HSG. 3) During the past five years, HSG has received contributions from 14 private foundations, 4 public charities and many individual donors. Other than the private foundations indicated in item 2) above, the largest donors over the past five years have been from two board members and 3 individuals.4) The Organization's mission and programs are such that it attracts a substantial amount of people to its website (which has a link for them to donate). There was an increase in unique individuals to 18,094 up from 15,280. This also is a reflection of branding and recognition of the Organization and its mission.HSG has over 4,000 face book subscribers.
