Activity 2

The emergency shelter provides safe, temporary care for youth involved in the child welfare and/or juvenile justice systems. When space allows, private respite care is offered to families in crisis and in need of a short-term placement for their children while the family situation is stabilized. The shelter served 99 unduplicated clients in 2012 with an average daily census of 11.25 (the program is licensed to serve up to 12 youth at any given time) and an average length of stay of 42.1 days.

Activity 3

The early childhood education center served 178 children, ages 6 weeks to 6 years, providing developmentally based programming with a focus on school readiness. 25% of children served were from low income families. 93% of all discharged children were developmentally on target at discharge, and 100% of children discharged due to the school enrollment demonstrated appropriate school readiness skills. The spellman child development center on the college of saint mary campus served 182 children, ages 6 weeks to 6 years; 28% of children received state subsidy. 90% of all discharged children were developmentally on target at discharge, and 100% of children discharged dued to the school enrollment demonstrated appropriate school readiness skills.
