“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Grass Roots Program - Provided coordination to a team of lawyers in Iowa that helped advise the other states' efforts in resisting the Bakken Pipeline (Dakota Access Pipeline Project, Enbridge Inc.). Drafted model resolutions, reviewed easements and contracts with landowners and more, reviewed annual reports and worked as a media liason. The Pipeline has been approved and there will more meetings with decision-makers with more documents to review. SEHN has also been involved with various coalitions in Rocky Mountain West/ Utah, including Elders Rising and Keep it in the Ground about mining issues and community organizing. Several articles were published in various publications including Common Dreams, DeSmog Blog, Guernica and others.”

IRS990/Desc0Women's Congress for Future Generations - Nearly 500 Congress participants gathered in Minnesota in November, 2014 for the Womens Congress for Future Generations Conference. In 2015, we continued building the framework for legal, political and cultural action to protect future generations from environmental harm. Built a coalition with national allies to strengthen effectiveness of the work. Gave several interviews to the media to promote the ideas. Advised regional working groups on developing their own actions. Organized a workshop in September that resulted in creating a study group that met around the book, Womens Congress Companion for Political Change. This book teaches readers how to give or withdraw their consent to an activity, how to identify common cause with their neighbors, and how to determine effective points of intervention for political engagement. The Companion expands on the Legal Principles for Mining, Fracking, and Pipelines. Plans are in the works to publish the book in 2016. Ann Manning, our Associate Director, received a Changemaker award from the Minnesota Womens Press for her work in organizing the 2014 Womens Congress and advocating for environmental change and economic justice.

The book incorporates the Ecological Model -- chemical, nutritional, built, and psychosocial determinants of health -- across a lifespan, on multiple levels. As Doctor-on-Call to the Environmental Health Movement: NGO allies, government agency staff, journalists, and others regularly turn to SEHN staff for expertise and advice.
