Activity 2

Provide training and technical support to member sheriffs the missouri sheriffs' association provides training and technical assistance to its 115 member sheriffs. Approximately 50% of the association's program effort is directed toward the development and implementation of training programs. Some of these programs are related to new methods or techniques of improving the law enforcement services of the county sheriffs departments. On-going training programs in criminal law, civil process service, jail operation and management, and office procedures and administrative managment are regular parts of this training program. The missouri sheriffs' association provides individual assistance to sheriffs on a daily and personal basis on technical problems of program administration on such matters as civil process services, jail management, and training. All technical assistance is provided by professional staff who, besides possessing advance college degrees, also have years of experience in the criminal justice field.

Activity 3

Training program the annual conference of the missouri sheriffs' association serves as a major training program for sheriffs, deputies, and interested public. The conference this year was attended by approximately 130 sheriffs and deputies. Twenty hours of training was provided in the following areas: constitutional law, legal issues, civil process and employee discipline. Missouri law requires the 115 sheriffs in the state to receive a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training on subjects which are timely to assist them to be more effective in the development and conduct of the sheriffs' department anti-crime programs.
