The institute administers academic activities from the us while operating its overseas research center in kabul, afghanistan. The kabul center serves as a resource for visiting international scholars and facilitates research, workshops, seminars and initiatives that promote advanced scholarship and the preservation of culture in afghanistan. Activities were interrupted in 2021 due to the us withdrawal. The kabul office is operating in exile out of the university of minnesota, twin cities, and is maintaining scholarship on afghanistan from within the us and third countries to keep research participants and staff safe.”
