Activity 2

Through two joplin hospitals, freeman provides a wide array of inpatient services, including general, neurological, orthopedic, and heart surgeries. Freeman provides services to patients through general medical, oncology, intensive care, maternal, pediatric, cancer, psychiatric, geriatric psychiatric, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation units. Freeman joplin inpatient services totaled 22,205 cases, of which, 5,584, or 25%, were medicaid cases. Additionally, 1,339 inpatient cases, or 6% of the total, fell into the self-pay (no insurance) category. See schedule o for additional details.

Activity 3

The freeman emergency/trauma department, and all of the health system, faced unusual challenges in fy 2012, due to the may 22, 2011, tornado that tore through joplin, missouri. The other hospital in town with emergency capabilities was completely destroyed by the tornado. Fortunately, freeman sustained only minor damage to freeman hospital west, a level ii trauma center, and was able to care for the injured and dying the night of the storm.
