Caf america's mission is to drive greater, and more impactful, philanthropic giving across the u.s. And world, connecting donors, individuals, families and corporations - with charities.

Major Activities

Activity 2
See schedule odonor advised gifts: cafamericas unique donor advised gift program enables u.s. Donors to make one-time gifts of $500 or more to charities around the world. In fy 2010/11 389 donors used this service to support the causes they care about.
Activity 3
See schedule ocharity due diligence: cafamerica uses it expertise in international grant making to assist other grant makers by conducting eligibility assessments of potential international grantee organizations. Cafamerica assesses foreign organizations from all over the world to determine when grants to such organizations for exclusive charitable purposes. In 2010/11, we worked with 4 corporate donors and undertook over 750 assessments that facilitated more than $31 million in international grants.

SRTL HAS A SIMILAR DOCUMENT THAT IS REVIEWED EVERY 3 MONTHS BY STAFF AND ANNUALLY BY BOTH THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF CAFAMERICA AND SRTL AND EXTERNAL LEGAL COUNSEL. THE GRANT MAKING PROTOCOLS APPLY A RISK-BASED APPROACH TO GRANT MAKING WHICH HAS BEEN ENDORSED BY THE COUNCIL ON FOUNDATIONS, UNITED STATES INTERNATIONAL GRANTMAKERS GROUP (USIG), THE DEPARTMENT OF THE US TREASURY IN ITS ANTI-TERRORIST FINANCING GUIDELINES AND THE EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS COMMITTEE OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION; AND IN THE UK BY HER MAJESTY'S REVENUE AND CUSTOMS SERVICE. THE U.S. RISK-BASED APPROACH IS DESIGNED TO SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE CAFAMERICA TO GRANTS BEING: USED FOR NON-CHARITABLE PURPOSES; AWARDED TO BANNED ORGANIZATIONS OR SANCTIONED COUNTRIES SPECIFIED BY THE US OR UK GOVERNMENTS; MADE TO CHARITIES THAT ARE NOT IN LINE WITH CAFAMERICA POLICY ON TERRORISM; DIVERTED TO SUPPORT TERRORISM. CAFAMERICA HAS A FRAUD AND MONEY LAUNDERING POLICY AND UNDERTAKES CHECKS ON DONORS AND FOREIGN CHARITIES AT THE TIME OF ASSESSING, AND MAKING A GRANT. CAFAMERICA ALSO COMPLIES WITH THE CAF INTERNATIONAL POLICY ON MONEY LAUNDERING, AND WHENEVER NECESSARY CAN ACCESS THE MONEY LAUNDERING AND INTERNAL AUDIT UNIT AT CAF. CAFAMERICA REGULARLY CHECKS FOR FATF (FINANCIAL ACTION TASK FORCE) AND OFAC (OFFICE OF FOREIGN ASSET CONTROL) UPDATES. SRTL FOLLOWS BOTH THE CAFAMERICA PROTOCOL AND CAF MONEY LAUNDERING AND ANTI-TERRORIST FINANCING PROCEDURES. AN ONLINE LICENSE FROM BRIDGER CHOICE POINT AND WORLD CHECK IS USED TO COMPLETE THIS TERROR AND MONEY LAUNDERING VETTING EXERCISE. CAFAMERICA IS A 501(C)(3) PUBLIC CHARITY AND GENERALLY ONLY ACCEPTS FOREIGN ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE CHARITABLE REGISTRATION STATUS OR EQUIVALENT STANDING UNDER LOCAL LAWS IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES. IN COUNTRIES WHERE NO EQUIVALENT STANDING IS WIDELY APPLICABLE, CAFAMERICA CAN ACCEPT ORGANIZATIONS OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED AS NONPROFIT, SO LONG AS THEIR PURPOSES ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE PURPOSES SET FORTH IN SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE U.S. INTERNAL REVENUE CODE. PER IRS REGULATIONS, CAFAMERICA REQUIRES A GRANTEE PROJECT EXPENDITURE REPORT BE SUBMITTED THE QUARTER AFTER THE END OF THE FUNDED GRANTEES FISCAL YEAR.
