Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The organization's executive director and board president initially review the form 990. Changes, if any, are communicated and a finalized form 990 is provided to the board for approval before filing with the internal revenue service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Board members are required to sign a document disclosing interests that could give rise to conflicts. This is reviewed annually as part of the audit and form 990 preparation process.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

A compensation study was done by the hiring committee when the executive director was hired. The study looked at compensation of similar organizations. Annually the compensation of all employees is reviewed through a third party.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

The endowment fund was established by the action of the board of directors of camp braveways in april 2025 to ensure the continuation and longevity of the organization's mission to provide free camps and programs for children and families affected by pediatric cancer and blood-related diseases. The purpose of the endowment fund is to maximize the use of investment assets and provide a predictable contribution to the annual operating budget of camp braveways in the future.

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is a qualified not-for-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is, therefore, exempt from federal income taxes. The organization has addressed the provisions of fasb asc 740, accounting for income taxes. In that regard, the organization has evaluated its tax positions, expiring statutes of limitations, audits, proposed settlements, changes in tax law and new authoritative rulings and believes that no provision for income taxes is necessary, at this time, to cover any uncertain tax positions.
