Burns recovered support group's mission is to assist burn survivors in their recovery, support medical facilities in missouri in the care of burns, and educate the public in burn awareness and prevention.

Help every burn survivor live life to the fullest without limitations, fear, or insecurity.

EIGHT INDIVIDUALS FROM MISSOURI RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIPS IN 2021 FOR A TOTAL OF $6,099. (SEE SCH O...)* EDUCATION FOCUSED ON SAFETY AND PREVENTION PROGRAMMING TO PROVIDE INFORMATION, STRATEGIES AND SKILLS TO IDENTIFY AND AVOID HIGH RISK SITUATIONS, SO INDIVIDUALS CAN PREVENT BURN AND FIRE INJURIES. IN 2021, 30 COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS FOCUSED ON PREVENTION AND EDUCATION WERE PROVIDED FOR THE PUBLIC VIRTUALLY. THESE SESSIONS REACHED 450 ATTENDEES.* YOUTH FIRE SETTER PREVENTION PROGRAM - THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD UNTIL STAFF ARE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE APPROPRIATE CERTIFICATION FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY. COVID-19 HAS DELAYED TRAINING ABILITY.* WORK AND SCHOOL RE-ENTRY - RETURNING TO SCHOOL OR WORK IS OFTEN A BIG ADJUSTMENT FOR A BURN SURVIVOR. BRSG STAFF WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BURN SURVIVOR TO EASE THE TRANSITION BACK TO SCHOOL OR WORK BY EDUCATING CLASSMATES, TEACHERS AND CO-WORKERS ABOUT THE ISSUES BURN SURVIVORS FACE.* INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PEER SUPPORT - VOLUNTEERS MEET INDIVIDUALLY WITH BURN PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE BURN UNIT AT MERCY HOSPITAL IN ST. LOUIS AND UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IN COLUMBIA OR VIRTUALLY. INDIVIDUALIZED PEER SUPPORT PROVIDES BURN PATIENTS WITH PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO ADJUST AND COPE WITH THEIR INJURIES, EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, AS WELL AS EASING THE TRANSITION FROM THE HOSPITAL TO HOME AND EVENTUALLY BACK TO WORK OR SCHOOL. GROUP PEER SUPPORT IS ALSO AVAILABLE THROUGH MONTHLY SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS HELD IN ST. LOUIS AND COLUMBIA, MISSOURI. PEER SUPPORT STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS VISITED WITH 98 INDIVIDUALS. NO IN PERSON SUPPORT GROUPS WERE HELD IN 2021 DUE TO THE HOSPITALS' COVID RESTRICTIONS. THE ORGANIZATION DID HOST A RETREAT IN DECEMBER 2021 THAT SERVED 25 YOUNG ADULTS AND TWO HOLIDAY PARTIES (KANSAS CITY AND ST. LOUIS) SERVING 54 SURVIVORS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
