Mission

The directors council has two primary objectives. The first is to provide support to fellow members and their organizations through collective grant applications, technical support, and peer guidance. The second is to pool resources to create efficient and effective social service programs that are lacking in the community.

IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom	0	The Des Moines African American Leadership Forum is a project of The Directors Council that was begun with funding from the Northwest Area Foundation. The Greater Des Moines Community Foundation and other funders have provided additional support in 2012. The project brings together African Americans in Des Moines and central Iowa to prioritize the most critical issues facing African Americans and create and agenda and plan for action to address the issues and offer solutions. The Directors Council brings together over 150 members of the African American community representing government, business, education, health care, social services, and industry. Progress is focused on six priority areas-health, criminal justice, economic development, education, family development, and leadership development/mentoring. Forum participants partner with existing community initiatives to advocate and leverage their power for positive change.
