Activity 2

The danish immigrant museum's genealogy center collects print, microform and digital materials on danish immigrants, danish americans, their communities and organizations, and provides information on relevant genealogical resources as well as research and translation services to the public in-house and long distance. In fy 2012/13 556 persons visited the genealogy center in addition to outreach activities such as 22 written articles, radio presentations and speaking engagements and an article in a major danish genealogical publication. Staff and volunteers translated 41 documents or document collections, completed 44 in-depth genealogical research projects for patrons in the us and denmark, created webpage content and accessioned 569 items into the genealogy center collection. A photo exhibit on confirmation as a coming-of-age event was also mounted in the center lobby. A digital library was also created and maintained by the danish immigrant museum. The digital library allows the browsing of online collections and titles and offers document search tools. It is a collaborative effort with the museum, the danish american archive and library in blair, nebraska and the danish immigrant archive grand view university in des moines, iowa. The a.p. Mller and chastine mckinney-mller foundation of copenhagen, denmark funds the project.

Activity 3

Public outreach activities bring the museums mission to its national audience and membership. Museum staff engage constituents at public festivals, lectures and presentations, workshops, and receptions across the country. During the past fiscal year, over 2,800 people participated in 26 off-site museum events in 8 states. The museum also engaged audience members through internet-based and electronic media. Over 29,000 unique visitors came to the museums website, nearly 4,000 people subscribe to the monthly e-newsletter, and 3,600 people follow the museums facebook page.
