IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Ward 8 Drug-Free Coalition SAMHSA Stop Act Grant further supports community forums featuring youth ambassadors and championing community-level changes regarding underage access and alcohol consumption. Our biggest challenge in changing community attitudes about the seriousness and importance of the drinking problem is making the connections between the underage drinking problem and other factors that are often viewed as more important, pressing issues but not linked back to youth alcohol use gang other youth violence and drug use such as marijuana, housing and crime issues.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Dept. of Health Addiction Prevention Recovery Administrion BRIC, Inc. operates the Wards 7 and 8 DC Prevention Center in direct partnership with the DC Dept. of Health APRA. Guided by DOH evidence based Strategic Prevention Framework public health model, four DC Prevention Centers work together to provide viable and sustainable citywide drug use prevention focused infrastructure. Focusing on youth ages 8 to 18 and their caregivers, we work through extensive neighborhood based and affinity group based prevention networks to empower youth and adult community leaders to learn about the harmful effects and causes of drug use. Our staff supported by our trained youth and adult leaders distributes specific drug access and drug use along with leading drug education capacity building trainings for youth programs, parent, senior groups and faith based groups, civic associations, resident councils, workplace groups, etc. In 2012, we directly served approximately 5,000 youth and 4,500 adults.
