IRS990/Desc0WCC ensures that constituents are trained, prepared and ready to respond to crisis locally by leveraging existing resources. Through training, support, and coordination, WCC empowers these spontaneous volunteers and disconnected communities to effectively prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster by training thousands of citizens, community leaders and not-for-profit groups to work together during catastrophic times.World Cares Centers three focus areas are:I.Training citizens to be disaster volunteers, and local leaders to develop their own community response plansII.Bridging the communication divide amongst stakeholders in the disaster response ecosystem.III.Engaging all partners and trained community members in a simulated disaster response and recovery exercise to practice their skills and build upon lessons learned.Focus Area Programs:I.WCC Disaster Volunteerism Academy:Through the Disaster Volunteerism Academy, WCC offers curriculums online and in classroom-like settings that are tailored towards specific demographics, free of charge. Because trainings are demographically tailored, this allows trainees to learn to respond within their capabilities. Beginning with an individual and family readiness training, which serves as a foundation for preparedness and risk mitigation, WCCs courses allow all individuals to become well-versed in disaster response and volunteerism. Local leaders are trained to serve as disaster volunteer managers and develop community response plans, and citizens are empowered to emerge as disaster volunteers. Training includes:Reduce the Risk and Ready to RespondFlood Response and SafetyRadiological Safety AwarenessPandemic and Ebola SafetyEmotional Resiliency for Disaster Workers and VolunteersII.The ReadyResponders Network (RRN):World Cares Center also offers an information sharing system that is fundamental in furthering community resiliency before and in the wake of a disaster. The Ready Responders Network, also known as the RRN, is a critical component of our organization. Serving as a virtual emergency operations center, the RRN allows for an exchange of problem solving solutions, the sharing of resources and the ability to request for additional support.The RRN increases the capacity of community based and local organizations by bridging the communication gap that exists between those who are managing a disaster and those who may be able to offer assistance and services. It is accessible free of charge and designed to meet the needs of hyper local, marginalized communities in need of an expedited connection to necessary resources.WCC has put resources towards continued enhancement of the functionality of the RRN, allowing for grassroots sharing of information, relaying of status updates, and coordination of resources to give local volunteers and managers the opportunity to be more effective and cost efficient by utilizing WCCs existing support network.III.Hurricane Matthew Response and Recovery:In October 2016, WCC responded to Hurricane Matthew by deploying to the Jeremie region of Haiti. WCC worked alongside Haitian communities and delivered 500 hygiene kits, personal protective equipment and empowered 80 local leaders as disaster managers. These empowered leaders have conducted needs assessments, cholera prevention training, and resource distributions. They are now prepared to continue to lead future recovery and prevention programs for their communities. SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN 2016In 2016 World Cares Center engaged in a strategic planning process that include its continuous investment in technology and virtual resources to increase its reach. WCC has also engaged in succession planning for the founder/executive director.
