The mission of Theater LattE' Da (the Organization) is to create new connections between story, music, artist and audience by exploring and expanding the art of musical theater.Theater LattE' Da has created a new voice for musical theater that both respects and challenges its audiences through diverse stories that are intimate, amusing and enlightening. The Organization has grown into one of the only mid-size theater organizations in the Twin Cities, maturing from simple cabaret styles to creating works that experiment with original formats and unique storytelling techniques. Since its inception, the Organization has held fast to its mission, and through its advancement, is filling a unique niche in the arts community. “The Organization has a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and has adopted Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, ASC 740-10. The Organization's policy is to evaluate uncertain tax positions, at least annually, for the potential for income tax exposure from unrelated business income or from loss of nonprofit status. The Organization continues to operate consistent with its original exemption application and each year takes the necessary actions to maintain its exempt status. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under the Internal Revenue Code and charitable contributions by donors are tax deductible.”

Theater Latte Da producted four mainstage productions that were inspired by the richness of the human spirit. With emphasis on both music and storytelling, the performances resonated with people on many levels: personal, intellectual, emotional and visceral. The season opened with an original work by the artistic director and a music storyteller exploring immigration in the late 1800s and the themes that repeat today. It closed with the 100th celebration of Our Town pulling music into the story through the actors playing instruments and singing songs of the time period. The production of Cabaret was acclaimed, earned rave reviews and walked away with several theater awards. The production of All is Calm about the Christmas truce of 1914 was another original piece written by the artistic director and performed with a nationally known men's chorus group. Over 25,000 attended Theater Latte Da productions.New Work Development - Three teams of creative artists were given the opportunity to develop a new work over a two week period culminating in three public readings for each piece. The public readings provided direct feedback to the artists which was then incorporated into the next reading. The end result was three new works that were moved along significantly in a short period of time. |
