BESIDES HAVING HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN NEARLY 70 COMMUNITIES, MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM INCLUDES 19 OWNED HOSPITALS, FIVE OWNED NURSING HOMES, PHYSICIAN SERVICE AGREEMENTS WITH ONE ADDITIONAL HOSPITAL, AND CONTRACT MANAGEMENT AGREEMENTS WITH TWO ADDITIONAL HOSPITALS AND ONE NURSING HOME. MORE THAN 600,000 UNIQUE PATIENTS ACCOUNT FOR MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION VISITS ANNUALLY IN MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM. IT IS ALSO A NATIONAL LEADER IN QUALITY AND SAFETY EFFORTS.MAYO CLINIC HEALTH SYSTEM-SPRINGFIELD (MCHS-SPRINGFIELD) PROVIDES HEALTH AND MEDICAL SERVICES TO THE SPRINGFIELD, MINNESOTA, COMMUNITY AS WELL AS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. SERVICES ARE OFFERED THROUGH ITS HOSPITAL AND CLINICS IN SPRINGFIELD, MINNESOTA, AS WELL AS A BRANCH MEDICAL CLINIC AT LAMBERTON, MINNESOTA. THERE WERE 1,519 PATIENTS TREATED IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM IN 2014, WHICH IS OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY. THERE WERE 158 ACUTE PATIENTS DISCHARGED FROM INPATIENT CARE DURING 2014, AND 11,420 PATIENT OFFICE VISITS TOOK PLACE AT THE MEDICAL CLINICS IN 2014. THE CLINIC IN LAMBERTON SAW 702 PATIENTS IN 2014. THIS CLINIC PROVIDES A NEEDED HEALTH CARE ACCESS POINT TO THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING MANY WHO ARE ELDERLY WHO HAVE DIFFICULTIES WITH TRANSPORTATION ISSUES IN A COUNTY WITH FEW OPTIONS FOR PATIENT TRANSPORATION.UNCOMPENSATED CARE:MCHS-SPRINGFIELD PROVIDES CARE TO PERSONS COVERED BY GOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO BOTH MEDICARE AND MEDICAID PATIENTS AT SUBSTANTIAL DISCOUNTS FROM STANDARD FEES. MCHS-SPRINGFIELD IS DESIGNATED AS A CRITICAL ACCESS HOSPITAL AND IS REIMBURSED BASED ON ITS COST OF PROVIDING SERVICES FOR HOSPITAL MEDICARE PATIENTS. CHARITY CARE IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR PATIENTS THAT ARE FINANCIALLY UNABLE TO PAY FOR SERVICES PROVIDED.THE COST OF CHARITY CARE PROVIDED IN 2014 WAS APPROXIMATELY $101,000.THE TOTAL COST OF UNCOMPENSATED CARE PROVIDED TO LOW INCOME PATIENTS THROUGH MEDICAID AND MINNESOTACARE (A STATE PROGRAM FOR PROVIDING MEDICAL CARE TO THE LOW INCOME POPULATION) WAS APPROXIMATELY $307,000 WHICH INCLUDES THE MEDICAID SURCHARGE OF $70,848 AND MNCARE TAX OF $101,096.THE UNREIMBURSED COST OF SERVICES TO MEDICARE PATIENTS DETERMINED BY USING INFORMATION FROM THE HOSPITAL'S MEDICARE COST REPORT WAS APPROXIMATELY $42,000.MCHS-SPRINGFIELD ALSO PROVIDES DISCOUNTS TO UNINSURED PATIENTS. THE TOTAL DISCOUNTS GIVEN IN 2014 WERE APPROXIMATELY $8,500. |
