Activity 2

Tutoring partnership for academic excellence:objective: to increase the quality and quantity of volunteer tutors and tutoring programs that support student achievement in saint paul public schools. Accomplishments: -coordinated partnership of 30 community-based programs that are tutoring over 6,500 students in 41 different schools. -the saint paul public schools foundation secured over 700 volunteers. -mca test results have shown that tutoring partnership students scored above the saint paul public school's average in math and reading. Published "best practices for tutoring programs". -launched program quality assessment in eight community-based organizations and 13 school sites.

Activity 3

Community engagement:objective: mobilize community partners to support community schools which emphasize academic rigor, extended-day learning and community based learning support. The foundation is in the process of developing a new initiative, "alumni and friends of the saint paul public schools," which will launch in 2012 to mobilize the community to help students succeed and to help members stay connected.accomplishments: -in 2011, assisted the wilder foundation and the city of saint paul in securing over 70 community partners in support of the saint paul promise neighborhood. -met with numerous individuals and organizations to discuss the needs of students in saint paul public schools and to secure their participation in efforts to increase academic achievement. -regularly communicate about the needs and accomplishments of students and community partners to several thousand people by way of the foundation's newsletter.
