IRS990/Desc0Pre-Kindergarten ProgramCRCS opened a pre-kindergarten program in the spring of 2014 enrolling 16 students. It was an excellent program preparing these students for the 2014-2015 kindergarten class. The program is approved by the Minnesota Department of Education and has earned a four star rating from Parent Aware.Capital ImprovementsCRCS completed its third year in our newly renovated home. As with any new construction or renovation there were minor changes that needed to be made during the year and they were completed. A final walk-through was completed in the fall of 2012.Technology problems that have plagued the school for two years are finally resolved including a new telephone system.Professional DevelopmentCRCS continued our building wide staff and professional development with the Fountas and Pinnell Literacy Collaborative program. We used the Benchmark Assessment Systems and Observation Survey data to make both personnel and program decisions. As part of our ongoing professional development and support systems our school incorporated quarterly teacher support meetings. We would use the data from MCAs and the Fountas and Pinnell systems to drive the conversations and needs of every student in the school. We instituted a school wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program in 2012 - 2013 which has been very successful. Some minor changes will be made to it as we began the second year in 2013-14. We are entering our third year in 2014-2015 and the program has proved to be very successful. It is led by a cross-sectional team of teachers, staff, and administrators. We have been providing ENVoY Training for our teaching and paraprofessional staff including having 75% become ENVoY certified.Because of our high ELL population, we also had a two day workshop on SIOP.Sports of All SortsThe 2014-2015 is the fourth year of the SPORTS PROGRAM. Students in grades 5-8 are invited to participate in Fall, Winter, and Spring sports. CRCS had about 85% of our students involved in the program and parents supported the additional opportunity for their children to get connected with school activities.STEAMis a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math after school program through the University of Minnesota for grades 6-8.CRCS Technovation TeamCedar-Riverside Community School started a Technovation team during the 2014-15 school year. Our team consists of five female students in grades 5-8. Girls interested in competing with the team were required to complete an essay outlining their interest in the team and technology. Our school team competed in the global and Minnesota competition. We had five mentors from Target Corporation that met with our team weekly to offer their expertise and leadership. The Technovation Challenge is the largest and longest-running global technology competition exclusively for girls to inspire the pursuit of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The global competition starts in January each year and lasts for 13 weeks. Teams from around the world research and design an Android App using MIT App Inventor. In addition to producing a working app, each team must also submit a business and marketing plan for their app. A video pitch for their app must accompany each submission for the global competition.Drama ClubAn after school program for grades 4-8 to develop confidence in speech and acting. Drama Club is opened for 4th 8th graders. We meet every Wednesday after school from 2:15-3:30pm. This is a great opportunity for the students to develop skills in reading, pronunciation, communication, and confidence to speak in front of others! We also take field trips to Augsburg College, the library, and local theaters. Fuel Up to Play 60A program founded by the National Dairy Council and NFL, in collaboration with USDA, that empowers students to take charge in making small, everyday changes at school. Students can win cool prizes, like an NFL player visit or Viktor the Viking visit for choosing go
