Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

The organization has members, but the members are all nonvoting.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

The board of directors receives the completed 990 by email before it is filed. The board of directors meets twice annually, in march and october. The organization's president/ceo reviews and signs the form 990, and the organization's treasurer reviews form 990 and discusses it with the preparer, privately, after it is filed. The treasurer brings information from their private discussion with the preparer to the board meeting in october when the 990 and preparer's findings are discussed with and approved by the audit committee and full board.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Annually, all officers and directors disclose interests that could give rise to conflicts using form 402.1 in board manual. All employees review conflict of interest policy during annual performance review. All employee conflicts of interest noted during employee annual reviews are disclosed by ceo at annual board meetings.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

Cbe's president/ceo undergoes a yearly performance review via an independent review by cbe's chair. This process is outlined in cbe's board manual section 208. The board chair discusses their findings with the full board at the march board meeting and any salary adjustments are determined at this time. The board holds executive sessions without the ceo each board meeting as a policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's conflict of interest policy is distributed to all employees and board members in staff and board policy manuals, respectively. The conflict of interest policy, governing documents, and financial statements are available upon request. _

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 1

Christians for biblical equality (cbe), www.cbeinternational.org, is a 501c3 nonprofit organization comprised of individuals, churches, colleges, seminaries, and organizations, representing more than 100 different denominations around the world. Together cbe advances the biblical foundations for the shared dignity, authority, and leadership of males and females in church, home, and society. Cbe's events, publications, website, bookstore, local chapters, and partnerships educate global communities based on the scriptural teachings that call all christians, male and female, to develop and exercise their god-given gifts for leadership with equal authority and responsibility and with the full support of their faith communities. Research shows that when a culture equally values males and females and extends equal authority to men and women, these communities experience lower incidents of female abuse and are more economically viable. Cbe pursues its mission by accomplishing goals in five key result areas (kra) including: 1) promote egalitarian scholarship; 2) popularize the message; 3) produce greater market penetration; 4) establish a financially strong organization; and 5) articulate a theology of gender justice. Below are salient accomplishments from each key result area.

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C

The organization's audit committee, comprised of the board's executive committee, reviews the financial statements. The audit committee is also responsible for selecting the independent auditor at the october board meeting. This process is outlined in the board manual section 601.1.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal and state income taxes as organizations described under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and section 290.05 of the minnesota statute. The organization's open audit periods are the years ended december 31, 2010 through 2013. The organization has adopted the recognition requirements for uncertain income tax positions as required by generally accepted accounting principles, with no cumulative effect adjustment required. Income tax benefits are recognized for income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return, only when it is determined that the income tax position will more-likely-than-not be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The organization has analyzed tax positions taken for filing with the internal revenue service and all state jurisdictions where it operates. The organization believes that income tax filing positions will be sustained upon examination and does not anticipate any adjustments that would result in a material adverse affect on the organization's financial condition, results of operations or cash flows. Accordingly, the organization has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions at december 31, 2013. The organization is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. The organization believes it is no longer subject to income tax examinations for tax return years prior to the year ended december 31, 2010. The organization's policy is to classify any income tax related interest and penalties in interest expense and other expenses, respectively.

THE ORGANIZATION'S OPEN AUDIT PERIODS ARE THE YEARS ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2010 THROUGH 2013.
