FAMILY MEMBERS WORKED MORE THAN 3,400 SWEAT-EQUITY HOURS TO "EARN" THESE HOME IMPROVEMENTS. COMMON HOPE ALSO IMPROVED AND OPERATED THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR NEW HOPE VILLAGE INCLUDING RUNNING WATER, ELECTRICITY, AND SEWER, TO HELP FAMILIES WHO HAVE RELOCATED FROM MARGINAL HOUSING IN GUATEMALA CITY. IN ADDITION, THE HOUSING PROGRAM BUILT TWO RETAINING WALLS USING RECYCLED MATERIALS TO PROTECT HOMES FROM LANDSLIDES AND PROVIDED FIVE FAMILIES WITH BUNK BEDS THAT FOLD INTO THE WALL AND TURN INTO A TABLE AND CHAIR. THE DUAL FUNCTIONALITY OF THE BUNK BEDS ADDRESS SPACE CONSTRAINTS AND SUPPORTS CREATING AN EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT WITHIN THE HOME.
