Activity 2

National initiatives casa de esperanza is a national leader in improving services and access for latino families experiencing domestic violence. The organization's national latin@ network (nln) for healthy families and communities (nln) offers connections, resources, training and tools to organizations and individuals serving latino communities. Casa de esperanza's nln is comprised of the following three areas: * the national latin@ research center on family and social change in atlanta, ga.* a public policy initiative that takes research findings and latino voices to legislative tables in washington d.c., then translates and disseminates policy decisions for network members and local communities throughout the united states.* training and technical assistance (ta) funded by the department of justice and the department of health and human services. Casa de esperanza provides training and ta nationally to organizations serving latino families and culturally specific organizations..the nln has more than 1,800 members. The members are engaged with weekly e-mails, monthly webinars, and ongoing training and technical assistance. In the past a new nln website and blog went live and has received more than 5,500 visitors in its first year. Other accomplishments in the past year include:* staff coordinated 98 training events including workshops, blog-talk radio segments, audio conference workshops, and national conferences.* trainings and technical assistance was provided to over 500 organizations representing 48 states and 8 countries.* national latin@ research center on family & social change graduate students presented at several national conferences and had two articles published in peer review journals. * provided research instrumental to the national domestic violence hotlines survey on latina survivors.* engaged with other national organizations to support policy advocacy and education related to the inclusion of improved protections for immigrant survivors within the bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the senate.* the director of public policy authored two articles related to limited english proficiency (lep) access issues and some of the concerns and consequences of increased immigration enforcement efforts.

Activity 3

Community engagementcasa de esperanza believes that strong communities and social networks decrease domestic violence. Cultivating leadership, facilitating connections and resources, and changing attitudes about violence are the key elements in mobilizing communities to prevent and end domestic violence. Casa de esperanza supports two inner city resource centers that provide access to technology and information that are critical to latino's daily lives. Over the past several years the organization has trained peer educators - latina women and youth - to offer community workshops, take leadership in their communities, and promote and model healthy relationships. During this past year, casa de esperanza received funding to support the development of our fuerza unida amigos initiative, where community members - women, men, and youth, receive leadership development and domestic violence training, and develop and lead community action projects.other accomplishments in the past year include:* a new cohort of youth peer educators was trained and began providing workshops involving healthy relationships, dating violence, and bullying for their peers. Nine latina presented to 335 youth through workshops and special events.* lideres provided workshops to 70 community latinas on topics that included healthy relationships, financial literacy, and sexual assault. * completed a community listening project with over 100 latinas to gain insight on their goals and day-to-day realities; results were shared with the participants and key stakeholder groups. * volunteers at the two neighborhood resource centers reported over 1,100 unique visitors and almost 2,500 total visits.
