Activity 2

National initiatives -casa de esperanza is a national leader in improving services and access for latino families experiencing domestic violence. The organization's national latin@ network (nln) for healthy families and communities offers connections, resources, training and tools to organizations and individuals serving latino communities. Casa de esperanza supports the network with the following:-the national latin@ research center on family and social change, centered in atlanta, ga.-a public policy initiative that takes research findings and latino voices to legislative tables in washington, dc, then translates and disseminates policy decisions for network members and local communities throughout the united states.-training and technical assistance (ta) funded by the office on violence against women, department of justice. Casa de esperanza provides ta nationally to organizations serving latino families and culturally specific organizations.the nln for healthy families and communities now has more than 1,500 members. The members are engaged with weekly e-mails, monthly webinars, and ongoing training and technical assistance. In the past year almost 6,0000 individuals, representing almost 500 organizations were trained through 61 trainings, 25 webinars, and 5 site visits. Over 18,000 unique visitors viewed the casa de esperanza website. Other accomplishments in the past year include:-staff coordinated the national latin@ institute in austin, texas with over 140 participants from 23 states, washington d.c. And mexico-staff collaborated with the office on violence against women (ovw) program officer and other ta providers to host the culturally and linguistically specific services program (clssp) grantee institute in new orleans-national latin@ research center on family and social change - students presented at four national conferences and had four articles published in peer review journals- the director of public policy engaged with other national organizations to support policy advocacy and education related to the reauthorization of the violence against women act-significantly increased user engagement through social media

Community engagement - casa de esperanza believes that strong communities and social networks decrease domestic violence. Cultivating leadership, facilitating connnections and resources, and changing attitudes about violence in the home are key elements in mobilizing communities to prevent and end domestic violence. Two neighborhood information and resource centers provide access to technology and information that are critical to latinos' daily lives. Casa de esperanza trains peer educators - latina women and youth - to offer community workshops, take leadership in their communities, and promote and model healthy relationships. Casa de esperanza also partners with other organizations and community leaders to create action agendas for engaging community members.accomplishments in the past year include:- a new cohort of youth peer educators was trained and began providing workshops for their peers. Nine latina youth peer educators were trained and nine workshops were presented to 50 participants.-205 additional youth were reached through two special events.-six lideres provided 22 workshops to 78 latinas in the community.-several lideres were trained to facilitate community listening sessions (community-based research).-volunteers at the two neighborhood resource centers reported over 1,300 unique visitors and 2,500 total visits.-volunteers contributed more than 3,000 hours of service to the community through our community engagement initiatives.-casa de esperanza expanded its resource center space at plaza latina. The new space offers wi-fi and more space for volunteers, visitors and groups to be able to meet productively.
