Mission

It is the mission of Community Action Duluth to empower and engage our community to eliminate poverty, and create prosperity and equity in the lives of the people we serve.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Increasing income and employmentin 2011, 56 people obtained a job with assistance from the community action duluth employment advocates. 22 people attended post-secondary education with education coaching and tuition assistance from community action duluth.hope program - assists families who are committed to making changes in their lives to resolve barriers to employment.circles @ work - a workforce development collaborative designed to increase employment and income for single mothers through job skills training and group support meetings.bridge to employment - provides intense, culturally appropriate employment advocacy and job development for african american and native american (starting in 2011) parents who are currently on the minnesota family investment program (mfip).
Activity 3
Faim and building assetsfamily assets for independence in minnesota (faim) - the faim program provides a 3:1 matched savings account for working people with low incomes to buy a house, go to college, or start or expand a business. In 2011, 13 people purchased a home, 18 capitalized a business and 18 attended college using their matched saving account funds. 110 people are currently saving in the program.home repair matched savings account - a project that assists homeowners with low incomes in repairing and improving their homes. 18 households made an improvement to their home in 2011.common cents: the money and homebuyer class - a 16-hour financial education and homeownership course offered throughout the calendar year with 150 graduates in 2011. Graduates can receive one-on-one credit and housing counseling to review their tri-merged credit report with scores.duluth saves - open to all duluthians, this program currently offers 53 current participants support and guidance to save, from opening a first savings account to financial counseling, financial seminars and classes, a newsletter with helpful tips, and other assistance.jump start duluth vehicle purchase program - in 2011, assisted 22 qualifying families and individuals in the purchase of reliable, affordable, low-mileage, energy efficient vehicles by offering low-interest loans, down payment assistance, and case management support.
