Mission

The mission is to help youth in crisis. This is accomplished by providing emergency and extended-stay shelter for children ages 10-17, free counseling for youth and their families, and support programs to keep youth and their families connected to services.

The mission of the bridge for youth is to help youth in crisis.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

The 990 is first reviewed by the budget and finance committee of the board and then the director of finance and operations. After the budget and finance committee have approved the 990, a copy is sent to the entire board of directors. Any errors found are corrected before the 990 is filed with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

A. Prior to a board or committee action on a contract or transaction involving a conflict of interest, a director or committee member having a conflict of interest and who is in attendance at the meeting shall disclose all facts material to the conflict. Such disclosure shall be reflected in the minutes of the meeting. B. A director or committee member who plans not to attend a meeting at which he or she has reason to belileve that the board or committee will act on a matter in which the person has a conflict of interest shall disclose to the chair of the meeting all facts material to the conflict of interest. The chair shall report the disclosure at the meeting and the disclosure shall be reflected in the minutes of the meeting. C. A person who has a conflict of interest shall not participate in or be permitted to hear the board or committee's discussion of the matter except to disclose material facts and to respond to questions. Such person shall not attempt to exert his or her personal influence wtih respect to the matter, either at or outside the meeting. D. A person who has a conflict of interest with respect to a contract or transaction that will be voted on at a meeting shall not be counted in determining the presence of a quorum for purposes of the vote. The person having a conflict of interest may not vote on the contract or transaction and shall not be present in the meeting room when the vote is taken, unless the vote is by a secret ballot. Such person's ineligibility to vote shall be reflected in the minutes of the meeting. For purposes of this paragraph. A member of the board of directors has a conflict of interest when he or she stands for election as an officer or for re-elections as a member of the board. E. Responsible persons who are not members of the board of directos, or who have a conflict of interest with respect to a contract or transaction that is not the subject of the board or committee action, shall disclose to the chair or to the chair's designee any conflict of interest that such responsible person has with respect to a contract or transaction. Such disclosure shall be made as soon as the conflict of interest is known. The responsible person shall refrain from any action that may affect the bridge for youth's participation in such contract or transaction. In the event that it is not entirely clear that a conflict of interest exists, the individual with the potential conflict shall disclose the circumstances to the chair of the chair's designees, who shall determine whether there exists a conflict of interest that is subject to this policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

On an annual basis, the organization's executive committee of the board of directors reviews salary survey's specific to the non-profit sector to determine where the organization's benefit packages are in comparison to other non-profits. The organization also discusses the benefit packages with other non-profit agencies to remain competitive. When determining compensation for a vacancy in the executive director position, the board hiring committee explores the community in a similar manner to develop a benefit package to attract qualified candidates. The most recent year this process was undertaken was 2012 for the executive director, daniel pfarr.

AT THE TIME OF EXIT, 88% OF YOUTH REUNIFIED WITH FAMILY OR OBTAINED HOUSING TO MEET THEIR NEEDS. 84% OF YOUTH WERE SAFE FROM EXPLOITATION AND ABUSE. TRANSITIONS PROGRAM31 DUPLICATED YOUTH BETWEEN AGES 16-17 WERE HOUSED IN THE ON-SITE TRANSITIONS PROGRAM. OF THESE, 40% WERE EXPERIENCING INTENSE FAMILY CONFLICT. 20% IDENTIFIED FAMILY HOUSING AS A CRITICAL ISSUE. 25% WERE EXPERIENCING CHALLENGES IN SCHOOL. AT THE TIME OF EXIT, 69% OF YOUTH SECURED SAFE AND STABLE HOUSING (28% REUNIFIED WITH FAMILY, 41% FOUND OTHER SAFE ALTERNATIVES).COUNSELINGTHE BRIDGE FOR YOUTH CONDUCTED 922 COUNSELING SESSIONS FOR YOUTH, PARENTS/CAREGIVERS, AND FAMILIES. OF THOSE, 37% WERE FOR YOUTH CLIENTS IN SHELTER, 34% WERE FOR CLIENTS ACCESSING SERVICES AFTER INITIAL CARE, AND 27% WERE FOR WALK-IN CLIENTS.365 PROGRAMWORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HENNEPIN COUNTY'S JUVENILE DETENTION ALTERNATIVE INITIATIVE (JDAI), THE BRIDGE SUPPORTED 99 YOUTH WITH TRANSPORTATION TO COURT, ADVOCACY, AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES. SERVICES ARE DIRECTED TO FIRST-TIME LAW OFFENDERS WITH A GOAL OF DETERRING A REPEAT OFFENSE. OUTREACHOUTREACH SERVICES ARE DIRECTED TOWARD EDUCATING AND SUPPORTING YOUTH IN CRISIS SO THAT THEY CONNECT TO GET HELP. ADDITIONALLY, OUTREACH IS DIRECTED AT EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS IN THE COMMUNITY ABOUT AVAILABLE SERVICES AT THE BRIDGE. OVERALL, 1262 CONTACTS WERE MADE. 232 YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN A WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUP FOR LGBTQ YOUTH AT THE BRIDGE.
