Activity 2

The ice age trail alliance (iata) has built and maintains about 670 miles of the ice age national scenic trail that are open for public use. Iata coordinates this work with its 21 chapters around wisconsin. In addition to the annual maintenance, iata added 7 miles of new trail and brought an additional 32.9 miles up to national park service standards. Iata's mobile skills crew (msc) program, including staff and hundreds of volunteers, is responsible for trail outlay, design, and construction. Total volunteers for the year were 2,184 contributing 69,896 hours.

Activity 3

The iata's annual conference was attended by 185 people. Five two- to three-hour workshops were conducted to deal with trail sustainability, endangered species, and trail project reviews. Iata's summer school youth education program, summer saunters, included an expanded program in the wausau school district and reached over 190 fourth and fifth graders, high school mentors, and parents. Programs in milwaukee and lodi continued. The ice age trail university (iatu) crew leader training brought nine new members to the msc ranks. These members are trained in crew leadership skills, sustainable trail building skills, cpr, first aid, and chain saw safety certification. Various volunteer trainings were conducted for over 100 individuals.
