Mission

SEDA is a public charter school providing education to children in K4 through 2nd grades. SEDA's mission is to increase developmental competencies and educational achievement of young children as a strong foundation for learning and success throughout their lives.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 12C: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts

Annually all directors and officers are requested to sign a conflict of interest statement that discloses all potential conflicts of interest. The signed statements are kept on file by the organization's executive assistant. Any person with a conflict is prohibited from participating in the governing body's discussions and decisions on the transaction.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 15A: Compensation Review & Approval Process - CEO, Top Management

SEDA is a partner and affiliate of Centers for Independence, Inc. (CFI), which assists in managing the organization. CFI periodically hires an independent consulting firm to perform a study of the compensation of the President and certain other employees based on their job descriptions. The consulting firm conducts market research and determines a fair compensation range for each individual based on a competitive peer group. In between these periodic independent studies, the human resource director determines appropriate compensation ranges for the President and certain other employees by reviewing the Form 990 of similar organizations and other market data. As reports are completed, the President's compensation range is presented to, discussed, and approved by the executive committee of the governing body.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

The Organization is exempt from income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is classified as other than a private foundation. Management has reviewed all tax positions recognized in previously filed tax returns and those expected to be taken in future tax returns. As of June 30, 2016, the Organization had no amounts related to unrecognized income tax benefits and no amounts related to accrued interest and penalties. The Organization does not anticipate any significant changes to unrecognized income tax benefits over the next year. The Organization is currently not under audit by any federal or state taxing authority and is no longer subject to tax examinations by the U.S. federal jurisdiction for years prior to 2011 and the state jurisdiction for years prior to 2010.

Management has reviewed all tax positions recognized in previously filed tax returns and those expected to be taken in future tax returns. As of June 30, 2016, the Organization had no amounts related to unrecognized income tax benefits and no amounts related to accrued interest and penalties. The Organization does not anticipate any significant changes to unrecognized income tax benefits over the next year. The Organization is currently not under audit by any federal or state taxing authority and is no longer subject to tax examinations by the U.S. federal jurisdiction for years prior to 2011 and the state jurisdiction for years prior to 2010.
