Mission

Porchlight, inc. Strives to decrease the homeless population by providing shelter, housing, supportive services and a sense of community in ways that empower residents and program participants to positively shape their lives. Porchlight, inc. Provides emergency shelter, food, employment services, counseling, and affordable transitional and permanent housing to homeless people in the dane county area. Our services are designed to foster independence and the transition into permanent housing and employment.porchlight is the largest supplier of low-cost housing in dane county and is comprised of an emergency shelter for men, housing and services for men and women suffering from serious mental illnesses, veterans, adults in recovery from alcohol and/or drug addictions, and low-income women, men and children with over 100,000 nights of shelter.a helping hand, not a hand out. A second chance. A warm bed. Hope. Opportunity.

The board is provided a copy of the form 990 for their review and approval prior to it being filed with the internal revenue service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Each director shall disclose to the board of directors any duality of interest or possible conflict of interest whenever the duality or conflict pertains to a matter being considered by the board. Any director having duality of interest or conflict of interest on any matter shall abstain from voting on the matter but may be counted in determining the quorum for the vote on the matter. In addition, he or she shall not use his or her personal influence on the matter, but may briefly state his or her position on the matter and may answer pertinent questions from other directors since his or her knowledge may be of great assistance.

Wage studies are used to determine total compensation for key employees. Porchlight uses a united way wage study as well as other studies. The executive director's annual salary is reviewed and determined by the executive committee comprised of the board of directors.

Porchlight, inc. Is required to assess whether it is more likely than not that a tax position will be sustained upon examination on the technical merits of the position assuming the taxing authority has full knowledge of all information. If the tax position does not meet the more likely than not recognition threshold, the benefit of that position is not recognized in the financial statements. Porchlight, inc. Has determined there are no amounts to record as assets or liabilities related to uncertain tax positions. Federal returns for the years ended 2010 and beyond remain subject to examination by the internal revenue service.

SAFE HAVEN CLIENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH MEALS, LAUNDRY FACILITIES, SHOWERS, PHONE AND MAIL SERVICES, AND REFERRALS TO COMMUNITY AGENCIES. SAFE HAVEN IS STAFFED 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. IN 2013, 46 MENTALLY ILL PERSONS RECEIVED 4,948 NIGHTS OF SHELTER, AND AN ADDITIONAL 230 PERSONS RECEIVED DROP-IN SERVICES.PORCHLIGHT'S SAFE HAVEN PROGRAM HAS SUCCESSFULLY SERVED HOMELESS PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS FOR OVER A DECADE. UNFORTUNATELY OUR AREA'S ECONOMIC CLIMATE COMBINED WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF RETURNING VETERANS IS INCREASING THE DEMAND FOR THESE SERVICES. IN 2010 PORCHLIGHT LAUNCHED MADISON CARES TO TAKE THE BOLD STEP OF BUILDING TWO NEW BUILDINGS TO ACCOMMODATE OUR AREA'S INCREASING NEED.
